Words can't describe how furious I am right now. In a widely unpopular move, the state legislature voted overwhelmingly for this gas 10 cent gas tax increase and Gov Mee Maw signed it into law. As often as politicians stab their voters in the back, you'd think you'd get used to it, but that's not the case. The sense of betrayal is pretty unbelievable.

quote:

Alabama Gov, Kay Ivey has signed a 10-cent-a-gallon gasoline tax increase into law.

Ivey signed the bill Tuesday afternoon about two hours after the measure was approved by the Alabama Legislature. The Republican governor proposed the increase to fund road and bridge construction.

Ivey said the money is an investment in the state's future and every dollar will be scrutinized to ensure it is used appropriately.

The Alabama Senate on Tuesday approved the bill on a 28-6 vote. The House of Representatives last week voted 83-20 for the bill.

If the roads truly need repairs, the fairest way to do that is through a gas tax. The more you use the road, the more you pay.

Stop your bitching.

I sent Cam Ward a nice expletive filled email about his yes vote and he sent me back an email talking about civil discourse. I replied telling him to shove his civil discourse up his arse along with his yes vote

As is with the case with federal spending and revenue, the problem is with the former and not the latter.

At the very least, we ought to legalize the lottery and expand gambling before resorting to increased gasoline taxes.

Not to mention that this measure is widely publicly opposed.

And we already had a gas tax that paid for those needed repairs. However, the same legislature that decided we needed a higher gas tax also decided to rob the fund to repair the roads of $300 Million over the past several years.

Spare us your lectures.

Arkansas legislature raised ours three cents today and six on diesel that goes towards infrastructure repair.

I’m fine with paying that. That’s something that benefits me. I’m not fine with the taxes I pay that keep La-a’s lazy arse from having to work, or the self employment taxes I pay in that I will never get the benefit of because social security will be gone in 15 years.

you could do all of that, and those thieving bastards would still find a way to waste the money or just flat out steal it. They can't be trusted with the money now, but we're supposed to hand over more just so they can piss it away??

I'm not sure where all of it went, but I know that some portion of it went to the court system.

The question is, do they already have the revenue to pay for it, or are they just adding to the general coffer?

I don't know about AR, but I don't trust the cocksuckers in Montgomery to use the forthcoming revenue in the intended manner. As with practically all governments, they'll find a way to squander it and ask for more money in the future.

The right lane on 65 between Montgomery and Birmingham is fricking awful. It sounds like you're drifting off the road.

Totally unnecessary.

Every lottery push in history:

1. We will use this money for SCHOOLS. The lotto will give $400 million dollars to KIDS.

2. Public votes for lotto.

3. Legislature moves $400 million dollars out of the education budget and into the general fund, maybe the lotto proceeds cover the loss, maybe they don't.

4. Legislature spends the $400M they pulled from education on pet projects, often at exorbitant expense to contractors that donated to their campaigns.

5. Junior still can't read.

6. 2-3 years from now, we need a $0.10 gas tax increase, a $0.20 property tax increase, a 9% hospitality tax on motels, a 10% entertainment tax on your Netflix bill, an additional $15 on the wheel tax - it's for the KIDS and the ROADS.

So where did they get the money to build the forking roads in the first place. I say they should use that source of money again. This BS of always raising new taxes to pay for the things gov't is suppose to be doing is wrong. They have been raising money for roads for over 100 years and now all of a sudden they don't have enough. BS
