re: Alabama votes to screw its residents at the gas pump.

I got to be honest, I never thought cussing out a politician could be so satisfying. he kept responding back, so I kept unloading on him. I encouraged him to own his yes vote and to run on it next election cycle. do some ads and some flyers championing the fact that he voted yes to raise peoples taxes at the gas pump. Also told him that he would hide from it come the next election because that's just what politicians like him do

Alabama GOP = tax and spend Democrats

Tried to get a prioritized list of infrastructure projects scheduled for renovation now that they've taxed us specifically for this. Have yet to hear back from my Senate District 34 representative who voted in favor.

We get gas prices lower and then they tax it. Im sure it will be wasted as usual.

See this is the part you’re missing. It’s an investment in the future of Alabama. You’ll be reaping future Alabama dividends for years. I’d tell my HR guy to scrap my 401k. No need buddy, I’ve got all kinds of Montgomery money headed my way.

To be fair, I've driven 20 from end to end recently...it's best through Bama...(I take the loop around Bham)
BUT, I ain't stopping for gas there now, I can make it across on a tank.
Texas is OK, but their exits along the way leave much to be desired.

Welcome to reality. We, on the other side of the 'Hooch, have been paying 10 cents more for gas (at least) for ever. I knew something was afoot last week when I drove to drop off goods at the tornado collection point and the prices had jumped.

No, they didn't.
The state constitution directs that "the cost of traffic regulation, and the expense of enforcing state traffic and motor vehicle laws" is also a designated use for any taxes relating to vehicles or fuels.
Additionally, due to decreased gas revenues for infrastructure over the past 27 years, the state has borrowed +-$200 million per year since 2011 to supplement the road budgets. Solvency has become an issue, as that debt ballooned to more than $1.4 billion. Service on the debt has risen from $13 million per year in 2011 to $114 million.
Borrowing is no longer an option, so your choices are to let the bridges fall, or pay to fix them. The money cannot be legally pulled from other sources because goddamn imbeciles have earmarked 93% of state revenues (FAR more than any other state), and every bit of it is codified in the constitution so it can never be used for any other purpose. Ever.

If they are anything like Georgia that money will be spent on everything but road work. Our politicians are out of control and something needs to give

Buddy Roemer did the same thing back in the late ‘80s. He said pass this and Louisiana will never have to worry about road repairs again.
How is that working for us? Just asking?

This has GOT to be us (Louisiana), not Alabama, correct?

And we already had a gas tax that paid for those needed repairs. However, the same legislature that decided we needed a higher gas tax also decided to rob the fund to repair the roads of $300 Million over the past several years.
Spare us your lectures.
I bet here in NC I pay a good bit more in state gas tax than you do.
Last year gas taxes
NC $0.3535
AL $0.2091
Yea, I pay almost double. Stop whining.

My biggest problem with Road Construction is costs.
They seem to have grown into the same stratosphere as medical costs.
A road that may have cost 1 million a mile in the 1970s; now can cost 20 million or more per mile.
Just remember, some engineers make a 1/3 of the cost just to design the thing. So that is 6 million just to draw up plans.

So presumably these are mostly Republicans, meaning your choices are this or democrats who would only do it more.
Doesn't govt and the people who flock to it just suck on every level?

Of course, being a Alabama resident, we are behind the times in just about every aspect of life. It’s about damn time.

Alabama Roadbuilders as a group are river-pirates.
