Why are you opposed to New Orleans electing its own Clerk?

Napoleon was elected to be Civil Clerk.
So, Napoleon was the Emperor of France. Laws are laws.

Very likely has to do with the federal consent decree the city was under for the better part of the last decade.
Which consent decree? OPSO is still under a federal consent decree.

Competency?

There was never an election for this office because it was just created on April 30.
That's silly.
With all of the actual governing and fixing all the bullshite in Nola that exists, why do these government officials waste their time on silliness?

You keep saying that but it is simply not true. The legislature simply expanded the duties of an existing office.

No one is above the law.
How is Napolean not fit for this position? Is it because she's black?

Their Latinate voluptuousness combines with their Gallic laziness and the result is they'd rather eat and make love with their faces than fight.

I know you think you have a "gotcha" with this,
It’s not a gotcha. It’s a legitimate question. People keep saying “it’s a state office” in defense of the state circumventing voters. So I’m genuinely asking why the state doesn’t appoint the clerks in every parish.

it simply transferred the functions of the criminal clerk to the civil clerk.
Is Napoleon’s title still “Orleans Parish Civil Clerk of Court”? That’s the office she was elected to.

The two offices were consolidated. NO elected someone to a position that does not exist anymore. The current Clerk of Court was duly elected. Everything was done in accordance with the state constitution, valid and legal.
Indefatigable explained this perfectly. I read it to my 12 year old, and although he is doing poorly in civics class, he understands it perfectly. No one is being partisan. What part do you not understand?

New Orleans wants to elect a Clerk of Court now that there is only one clerk. Landry says we aren’t allowed to because he already appointed a clerk for us.
She was elected. You even pointed this out.
Something is seriously wrong with you.

This one crushed it. Because it's so damn true.

So we have a Civil Clerk of Court that also performs the duties the Criminal Clerk of Court but no Criminal Clerk of Court. Just the Civil Clerk?

Objectively false.

You are like a dog on a bone with this.
Have you read the law you keep raising hell about? Again, no matter how many times you say it the legislature did not create a "new" office. And even if it had, only the legislature could call an election to fill that position.
The New Orleans City Council has no role in this whatsoever.

I know that you understand the definition of consolidation. Why are you pretending not to?
If your company/organization merged another position into yours and placed you in charge of both sets of duties, would you be insisting that there needs to be a competitive application process for the job you already have?
The alleged principles at play here for you don’t pass the smell test. If you have to lie—ie appointment narrative—your position sucks.
Do you work for the criminal clerks office or are you hoping that this issue will somehow shoehorn into the broader redistricting “disenfranchisement” narrative your party is working on?
