After reading this, I agree that the budget bill shouldn’t pass as is.

Republican Reps. Chip Roy of Texas, Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma, Andrew Clyde of Georgia and Ralph Norman of South Carolina all voted against the legislation.
A fifth House Republican, Rep. Lloyd Smucker of Pennsylvania, also switched his vote from "yes" to "no," though it was a procedural maneuver that allows him to bring the legislation up again. Smucker told reporters he was "quite confident" in the bill's success.

The fiscal hawks are frustrated about provisions curbing Medicaid in the bill not going into effect until 2029, and had similar issues with the delay in phasing out green energy subsidies from former President Joe Biden's Inflation Reduction Act.
"Only in Washington are we expected to bet on the come that in five years, then everything will work. Then we will solve the problem," Roy said during debate. "We have got to change the direction of this town. And to my colleagues and other side of the aisle, yes, that means touching Medicaid.
quote:
Roy said on X after the vote, "We were making progress, but the vote was called, and the problems were not resolved, so I voted no. I am staying in Washington this weekend to deliver."
"Medicaid Work requirements must start NOW not 2029 & the Green New Scam must be fully repealed, as President Trump called for," Roy wrote on X.
Earlier, Trump took to Truth Social where he suggested those opposing the bill were "grandstanders" and he pressed Republicans to unite behind it.

Those aren’t unreasonable demands by Roy.
Republicans always kicking the can down the road to avoid negative press

What about the MAGA savings account?

Why are republicans so afraid of cutting Medicaid for people who are offered insurance through their work?
That seems more than a reasonable reform to the program

don's not willing to take that heat. he's passing it off to the next administration by design. same reason he didn't pull out of afghanistan during his first term

Hey you stupid mother fricker, What part of this being done by CONGRESS don't you understand? He is "passing it off the to next administration" because the democr4ats will vote in lockstep against ANYTHING and there is another set of "moderate" Republicans who are the actual people responsible for the delays your shriek about.
You lying pieces of shite are tiresome.

I don't completely disagree with you, but if President Trump is for reducing Medicaid in circumstances that make sense, then why doesn't he publicly come out in favor of such to drive the nail home to Congress? Tell the American people, via TV and his tweeter, that reforms to Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare need to happen.
Tell his supporters they need to vote for primary challengers for anyone who doesn't get on board with these reforms.

Because they would be victimized by “R’s are coming for your Medicaid”.

Then don't bitch about the CR that is coming.
The root problem is the democrats voting in lockstep against ANYTHING.

I don't trust Roy on this. Trump's correct that he is grandstanding, and Roy knows that will play well for his reelection. However, compromising on Medicaid changes will be very unpopular for Reps in purple districts, and will cost them reelection, giving the House to Dems in mid-terms.

They already are. Just do the right thing, dammit.

Easy fix, change the timelines

Yep. If things wont be cut next year, they'll never get cut. Waiting until 2029 to cut Medicaid fraud is a joke.

Don’t even really care anymore. Congress GOP are fake 95%. Of course the SFP’s will lay it at the feet of Trump, but that’s intellectually dishonest
Posted on 5/16/25 at 1:35 pm to Jake88
And the green energy pork was literally cash dumped in states that they dont want to give up.

Because he's too busy trolling Taylor Swift.
You know, leadership.

Pre-zachary. Just imagine if Trump put HALF the effort in cutting spending that he put into Liberation Day.

I don’t see how any republican in congress would be against pulling back those green scam subsidies. Nobody should have a problem with that unless they were part of the scam to begin with.

The Medicaid users and abusers aren’t voting for republicans anyway so gut the entire program to zero.
Phase out SS with opt out options and gut that Ponzi scheme while we’re at it. And cut taxes to 0 on the 1st 400k earned and watch this country pay off debt and explode into the stratosphere.

If that was true it would be easy to follow your advice, but it’s not true. You don’t think the Rs from moderate, and even blue-leaning, districts don’t get votes from that ilk? Of course they do.
