re: About that Iranian ship we blew up with a torpedo.

Nobody in WW2 torpedoed a ship and then picked up the survivors. The submarines didn’t have capability or capacity to pick up that many. Also a surfacing submarine is an easy target. The Germans didn’t, The Brits didn’t. The Japanese didn’t and neither did we.

This is payback and it is a bitch. The cowardly IEDs, the bombing of the Marine barracks (when on a peacekeeping mission) and now randomly shooting rockets to strike civilians in non-combatant nations deserves this response.

This isn’t a game. They were a legitimate target unlike the civilians that Iran used terrorists and their police to kill.

Friend of my dad was on a ship that was torpedoed by the Germans in the Gulf. When they were on their life boats, the U-Boat surfaced next to them, they gave them cigarettes, water and some food and told them, "Roosevelt got you into this war, now let him get you out of this."

Armed or not is not relevant. Jet of blown up all the time on the tarmac without any weapons. Why would a warship that isn't armed NOT be a target during a war?

Should we have let them return to Iranian waters before sinking it? Why difference at this point does it make?

So elephant in the room was the exercise otherwise successful?

I know your dogwhistle has been squealing all morning, but this isn't like when Bush 1 went into Iraq, or when Bush 2 went into Afghanistan or Iraq... There's no troops being deployed. We're blowing up all of Iran's shite from afar. And it's shite they've been trying to make nukes with. We negotiated plenty of ways for them to use uranium for nuclear power but they only wanted to make nukes with it. And they said as much.
