quote:Well, current income taxes are right about 20% of GDP. So you’d have to cut all government by about 50%, and payroll taxes in place, unless you end SS entirely. Also it would be a sozeable tax increase on the 50% or so that currently pay $0 in income taxes.
I'd suggest a 5 to 8% national sales tax on new goods. Everyone would pay there fair share (as it is called) sine the evil rich would pay more in taxes because they purchase more goods.
If that isn't sufficient revenue to cover federal expenditures then non-essential government programs must necessarily be cut.
I’m pretty onboard with those consequences, but I also recognize it’s political suicide.

I'm a huge advocate for helping out those who are struggling, but at the same time, I do not want to incentivize people to make less money. We need to find a way to help people who are at least trying to make a living without rewarding those who are just milking the system.

I miss those days.
If you get MAGA to make some noise about it he'll say those things again.
He won't do them, of course, because he can't, but if you just like hearing it, he'll say just about anything he thinks MAGA wants to hear.

Remember when we were raking in billions with tariffs and the courts ended most of it?
That was the plan to make it the ERS. External Revenue Service.

1) Why should SS be cut? That's not funded by income taxes. That's a completely separate tax in and of itself. It's taken with the promise of repayment at a set rate after a certain age (which more than likely will never equal the amount the individual paid into it).
2) It damned well OUGHT to be an increase for the freeloaders who pay no income taxes. And, for those who are extremely wealthy for whatever reason, they will be paiyng taxes as well on new goods purchased.
3) Cutting government by 50% is NOT a bad idea at all - except for the fact that it probably needs to be cut by even more than that.
We have always been taught in our schools that there is "no taxation without representation." So then, why is it that people who pay no taxes get to have a say in how the rest of us are taxed? Create a national sales tax/consumption tax and everyone now has skin in the game.

I believe that the BBB did take a yuge whack at the IRS budget. Gotta give orange and the republicans in congress credit where credit is due.

I would redirect the IRS towards politically motivated non profits and fraud.

The dumbest shite I’ve seen posted in a month. You MAGA folks are truly fricked. As bad as the Obama folks.

He had a huge mandate, landslide, popular vote, etc. and he spent it all on Israel.

Abolish property tax instead first. Then we can work on federal income tax.
There’s a greater chance every poster here wins the lottery than any of that ever happening.

quote:Hell, I'm for flat taxes (not flat percentage). But... like raising taxes on over 50% of the population it's a political non-starter. We love our government spending. See your point #1.
I’m pretty onboard with those consequences,
