Legitimate, constitutionally authorized government spending is one thing.
quote:So would I. But reality is we are in the minority.
DC needs to go on a starvation diet at this point. And as for previous point #1 - I would dearly LOVE to do away with SS.
You aren't going to find example of me arguing SS is a good thing. I'm just telling you what the political realities are. If we're ever going to make getting rid of it -- we have to start weening people off the idea of dependency. I see no indication of that happening. Maybe you do?
quote:I agree with this too. Again, were in a tiny minority. Most people consider SS to be "my money" because they've been told there's some pile of money in an account waiting for them. The reality is, government has already spent it.
Ad you said regarding SS: ... There is no guaranteed ROI. Congress can cut it to zero anytime it wants ...and this is an excellent reason why it needs to go the way of the dinosaur.
quote:Flat amount. Take the federal budget divide it by number of people -- there's your tax bill. Everyone pays the same. Government treats everyone equally Everyone shares equally. Everyone has the same skin in the game. Do that and we'll get that mass urge to cut spending, overnight. As long as the "someone else" pays for the majority we are screwed.
What the hell does this even mean? How do you propose a flat tax without leveling it as a percentage?
And just like SS going away, I realize this is a political impossibility. I can dream tho.

Abolish property tax instead first. Then we can work on federal income tax.

Trump’s a little too liberal for me and it shows.

Well, poop! We don't seem to differ that much at all. I actually like your idea of a flat rate much better. THAT makes good sense and is completely fair!

Remember when trump used talk about neutering the IRS and no payroll taxes.
I miss those days.
Seriously, does anyone actually pay attention to anything that comes from Trump's mouth? When was the last time a lucid, detailed explanation of anything came out of this mouth? In his first term, yes, but not lately.
