Just means there are times when being white comes in handy.
You want me to argue with you on this point? I can't do that.
Just as there are times where being black would be a damned inconvenience.
But it is not institutional and it is not conscious - at least not that I'm aware of - and certainly not this way in widespread form.
I mean, aren't there times where being black would come in handy and being white would be a damned inconvenience. Probably not even close to being in balance, but that doesn't, in and of itself, suggest a conscious, institutional reverse racism now, does it?
A black track coach (I forget his name) wrote a great book in the 1970s - he said (paraphrasing):
quote:
Prejudice is terrible when faced with facts. I have scores of kids come through this program and, due solely to skin color, are running the wrong event. There is a correlation with the slow twitch/fast twitch muscle ratio, but that even varies among whites and blacks. Pure prejudice has white kids who would be wonderful 100 and 200 meter runners out here struggling to be mediocre middle and long distance runners. Likewise, I have some black kids of East African ancestry trying to run the 200 and 400 when they would better off at middle and longer distances.
When we muscle biopsy these kids, we pretty much know where they should settle in, distance-wise, but many are already convinced through 5 to 10 years of track that they belong in a certain distance range because of the color of their skin.
Why didn't that guy run for President?

But is the persecution not real?

quote:I'm part of another group that is just as easy to measure statistically as not given a fair shake. Short men. Are discriminated against the same? Nah. But, we most certainly are as are the MANY other groups I've listed in this thread. Blacks seem to think they've cornered the market on this and that they are always on the "short end" of the stick. Alas, that's just false.
While I do agree with your overall point, I would just add that its always easier to say "get over it" when you are part of the group that isn't getting the short end of the stick.

At 5'8", I call myself "low average" - in any event, it's cool. If I were tall, it wouldn't even be fair.

Then you're definition is meaningless because you could insert any other category in place of white and the statement would still be true.
Why is it meaningless? I never once said white privilege is the only type of privilege that exists.

Was that an example of "black privilege"?
Well in all fairness to myself, my jump shot is pretty wicked so IDK

When I moved to a new school district and showed up for HS football tryouts, my coach looked at me like I had 3 heads. It took being the 3rd fastest guy on the team in wind sprints for him to even pay attention to what I did at other times in practice. He admitted as much to me later on. Said I basically made the team for one reason......he actually started watching my reps after we had a couple of days of wind sprints where I was outrunning the "fast" kids.
That track coach's story is funny to me also because the HS 400 champion in my state that year was from my school. And, he was white.

What's the point of having a term that could be restated as "life exists"?

True, but I think history has a lot to do why blacks bitch about it more than short people tbh.

It serves no positive purpose for blacks whatsoever.

I sympathize with the lingering history.
I can understand that it would be weird to have to read about that growing up, or know that 50 years ago certain regions treated people like you with outright contempt.
Unfortunately, however, some allow that to color their entire worldview, which is incredibly counterproductive and destructive.

Black people will continue to hold it as long as others keep repeating their acts of humiliation that are eeriely similar to acts from centuries ago.

I'm not "holding on to anything" but if you are going to wonder why black people complain about injustices more than short people, I am going to remind you that there is a historical basis for this. Seriously, why do people on this board get so butthurt whenever a mere mention of the word "history" gets brought up in racial discussions? Its just the truth of the matter. If we used height as opposed to skin color to stratify our society in the past, who do you think would be doing a majority of the complaining today?

The people who commit racist acts in 2014 are a very small minority of and are totally shunned by modern society. Why hold "the white race" accountable for the actions of just a few? I think there will always be a few racist jerks of every race, as long as race exists. Most people are decent

A major impediment to upward mobility for blacks is racist landlords.
and at least 9 of the top impediments are totally self-inflicted within the black community

its an ugly truth.
If I were white, I wouldn't want to constantly be reminded that my skin color is associated with such wretchedways .
So I can grasp that

I think we are past the point where we have a significant number of overt racists. However, if the results of the OP study are accurate, we are still quite far away from living in a post-racial society.

Excellent point - particularly for something you had no hand in.

Just as I can grasp a situation - lets say I was just a regular, middle class black guy, working at a car dealership in St. Louis. Ferguson blows up. Heck, my brother is a St. Louis cop. Now, every white motherf*cker that comes in here wants to ask me about Michael Brown, Darren Wilson and I couldn't care less if my life depended on it.
But, I get the questions because I'm black. That would piss me the hell off.
