Go ahead, my enlightened one—- could you give us the game plan?

Trump has made the world stare into the abyss of a trade war with the US. Europe and most of Asia have already come to realize they need to negotiate trade deals with the US that are less one-sided in their favor and more fair to the US. Now China is alone in their defiance. And that’s terrible for them because their biggest customer on the world market is the US. The last thing a country needs is to piss off the country they rely on buying their products to keep their economy afloat. It’s akin to a large business pissing off their largest client.

The US has a trade deficit of over $1 trillion with China right now. If Chinese goods are cut off from the US market, it will cripple China’s economy which is already a house of cards. China needs to trade with the US far more than the US needs to trade with China. Their economy relies on the US buying stuff they send here. The US economy does not rely on China buying stuff we send there. And now China is out on limb all by themselves in this trade war with the US. Trump’s move with the rest of the world ensured that. First he made them see what he’s willing to do, now he’s got them to the table to talk. This means China will have no help in the trade war either the US.

(Frankly it’s embarrassing I even had to explain this to you)

ETA: down vote it all you want, what you can’t do is refute it. So take your worthless downvote and shove it straight up your arse if you’re too much of a pussy to accept the truth.

Its pretty simple. Trump even laid it out in that tweet.

Trump's penalty was raising tariffs. 75 countries called to work out a deal and did not retaliate. That is called operating in good faith. That almost always warrants a hold on whatever penalties were imposed. This is how you negotiate.

Living life glass half empty all the time has to be exhausting for some of you.

This should have been the starting gameplan

China has exposed itself as the world's cancer. Trump knows how to let a problem identify itself, which works much better than just calling it out.

If China goes broke, they'll have to pull funding on all their strategic initiatives designed to culturally defeat the US from within. And that would be a happy day.

They are the most egotistical, soulless pricks on the face of the Earth. Well, at least their ruling class is.

The US still has tariffs on everyone

Total leverage play.

Everyone knows he is willing to go nuclear and fight a trade war with the entire globe at once now.

Everyone knows they have 90 days to make a deal before they get bent over.

Major tariffs on China disproportionately hurts China.

When it’s all said this will go down as the deal of the century

Nope, it wouldn't work that way. Trump can't say China is the bad guy - China has to prove it.

Depends. Whoch goal do you want to select from?

- NAFTA for everyone
- Replace income taxes with tariffs
- Create american job by becoming independent from imports.

If it’s NAFTA for everyone, I guess he is indeed winning yugely. But I thought that was a terrible deal?

I am no Trumpist and have down votes to prove it, but I welcome this startling move. Instead of uniting the world against us, focus our ire on the country that has been so unscrupulous in trading with other nations. Bravo!

When China is hit with revaluation of its currency they will strike out harshly, most likely with that Taiwan move as to take population focus off negative governance. That or the civil unrest between the right of Xi and the left of Xi

That won't happen. Especially not over trade. The US isn't making any moves on China, and the only way the US fights back is if China REALLY baits our military into it. They would probably have to outright attack American soil.

Will also cause other nations to gang up on China. No reason they can’t tariff China for putting the rest of them in this boat

I kind of love this

China has gone for 5 decades thinking they were just outsmarting us. Which in fact, they might have been.

But they won't just flush 50 years of manipulating the US without a fight.

Now to go find out how many members of Congress dumped a bunch of money into the market this morning within an hour or 3 of Trump's announcement

Not as simplistic as those. Negotiating with reducing tariffs seem to be but a part. That part is what people focus on but breaking the economic back of China sounds more like what’s going on.

So, the EU announced its implementation of 25% retaliatory tariffs this morning prior to Trump's tweet. Those tariffs are to begin on April 15.

Let's see if they "pause" those tariffs after this news.

Trump bent the knee. He saw his approval rating dropping and had to change direction.

MAGA will move goal posts.

Pivot!!!!

Thankfully my 401k is alive and well.
