Targeted tariffs are actually effective.

I’ll give him credit right here right now for stepping back from a stupid policy. Thsts a great thing!

A pause still leaves too much uncertainty. Hard to make investments when you don't know what the price will be in 90 days.

Zero strategy

The strategy is being accomplished. Reading between the lines it appears that Trump has gotten the key economic nations to agree to terms related to China. I can assure you there is a strategy. I'm not 100% sure what it is, but it appears to be war on China.

Targeting China, who appears uninterested in coming to the table, is a smart move. Also rewarding other nations that have agreed to negotiate is smart.

Overall this is good strategy and good policy.

Can’t take credit for the Biden economy if you didn’t threaten to destroy it first.

70 plus countries submit their desired interest in resolving and your idiotic comment is Trump bent a knee.

Do not be fooled by the headline.
These crazy Trump tariff is finished.

90 days will take you to the Holiday ordering time for American companies.
Trump can not raise the tariff around that time.

After 8 years of trading war with China, American companies already tried their best to move away from China or China + 1. For some goods, they can not find any source except importing from China.

Every time, US raise tax on Chinese good.
Under the table, US will exempt most of them.
US has done this many times in the past 8 years during Trump and Biden terms.

125% China tax has minimal effect.

I’m sure that’s what the other guy will say, but how does that make any sense?

Let’s start a trade war with the entire world, cause harm to my economy and destroy relationships and agreements with our allies when our true intentions were to get those dirty Chinamen all along? Why not just start there?

This seems reactive and is in line with Trump's belief that he can get by on instincts alone.

If, and I do mean IF, Trump keeps this in place where it’s economic war on China while working with, literally, the rest of the world, maybe this will be a real blow to the Chinese. But this is going to require a willingness to stay a course, and Trump shows little long term steadfastness on this. We’re going to need allies in this showdown, and we’re now in a weakened position because everyone knows we need them to be with us, and therein there are problems:

quote:

Even if officials manage to win an audience, the terms of engagement keep shifting. Mr Trump has railed against everything from bilateral trade deficits and food-safety rules to value-added taxes, defence spending and tech regulation. Many of the accusations are entirely baseless. “We must ask: what era do those figures come from?” said Ishiba Shigeru, Japan’s prime minister, after Mr Trump claimed that Japan imposes a 700% tariff on American rice. Officials in South Korea were similarly stunned when he declared that their average tariff is four times higher than America’s. “It is based in fiction,” says Yeo Han-koo, a former South Korean trade minister. The two countries already have a free-trade agreement; tariffs on most American goods are close to zero. South Korea has tried to correct the record through official channels, to little avail.

We cannot go into negotiations with made up numbers, which we have certainly done. And who has a clue which way Trump will decide to swing all of this tomorrow.

Went in with high tariffs globally then got everyone less China to the table to talk. Then lowers to 10% and everyone is happy

Now gets to fight China 1 on 1 which will lessen the impact
