Its almost as if this story is aaid every year
quote:
In 2015, the US homeownership rate reached 63.4%, the lowest level in almost 50 years, with a particularly low rate among millennials.
Millennial Affordability:
Studies from 2015 and 2016 revealed that a large percentage of millennials were unable to afford a home, with 77% citing affordability as a major reason for delaying homeownership.

What were you doing in your 20s?

But not Gen X or Millennial homeowners? Why not?
Home value deflation will hit millenials far harder than anyone else.

Very well could.
Here is what perplexes me. You have a lot of Millenial and Gen Z leftists that keep bitching about “starting salaries” and “boomers had it better”…… yet they keep waiving in illegals that depress wages and take up living spaces.

Boomers have kids in their 50s.
First problem with that whole assumption. It’s funny because my boomer relatives always refer to people who are currently in their twenties as millennials.

Are you saying people in their 50s are being handed cash for down payments as a general rule?
What I’ve been seeing from the deaths of boomers in the last few years is that the 50 year olds inheriting homes from boomers are keeping them as rentals. They’re not moving into them and they are not so strapped for cash that they need to sell them.

two subsets of Boomers - the greedy selfish kind who wouldn't give their kid $100 bucks if it would save their life and the generous unselfish kind who will help their kids starting out in life with things like a 20% down payment on a home.
They're the former hippies and are now the 'Authoritarian Left' made up of Democrats and self professed Republicans who haven't voted Republican since Mitt Romney
I deal with them more than I'd like. They're the ones selling off legacy wealth that they inherited for vacations and depreciating assets. They're usually mad that they couldn't get more for their parent's home and need all the help in the world but get mad when the bill for that help comes due, so I make it a point to charge them in advance.

We need values to deflate which will make boomers big mad.

Does this even matter that much unless you're planning on selling it?

There are many who bought in 2021 that are upside down in towns like Austin, where the market has decreased like 23% since the 2021 peak who can't
Isn’t that sort of like taking out $200k in student loans for a college major that will get you a $30k job?

Yea man it’s definitely the 30-45 years old who are running the country and not the 60+ crowd that dominates just about every level of government.
You will always sound dumb as shite pinning mass illegal immigration on people who were in high school and college when it started.

Well the stupid fricks need to learn to live on a budget and save some coin.
The early boomers were kids in the Great Depression and late ones were touched by it.
We tried to teach you all the golden rule but your lazy arse rejected it?

Has anybody addressed the insurance problem?

That’s because you live in a red state and the Biden administration stopped bailing out the insurance companies…

Serious?
If my kids moved to a blue state there would be a substantial difference in price?

Does anyone’s 401K balance matter in downturns if they aren’t close to retirement? But it hurts to look at the value lost.
And actually I am planning on selling in the next two years. I bought it at a good price in late 2008 and I’m cashing in on the demand in this area now. Moving back to the family acerage to take care of the stuff dad cannot anymore.

Who are electing them? What’s the median age in Northern VA where the bureaucrats are?
