A panel of federal judges on Monday blocked Alabama from using congressional district maps that would dilute the votes of Blacks in the 2026 midterm elections.
The ruling sets the stage for the Supreme Court to determine whether the maps can be used by Alabama this year.
quote:
The three-judge panel issued its ruling in response to the Supreme Court telling it to revisit the question of whether the maps could be used in light of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling in a case known as Louisiana v. Callais, which found that Louisiana’s drawing of its own congressional map was a racial gerrymander.

Silly judges. This has already been adjudicated at the Supreme Court.

So, you can’t gerrymander based on race yet the new districts dilute the black vote?
Seems like the same problem we had to start with, which means SCOTUS will likely slap this shite down.

Don’t you just love that little opinion nugget the author threw in there.

It's like they're begging to be reversed

Hasn't USSC already ruled on this?

These clown judges are just thumbing their noses at the USSC. The racially gerrymandered districts they imposed are blatantly unconstitutional.

Yes, but how quickly? Seems like a stall tactic to do whatever they can to save/swing the midterms.

Seems like something they should be able to do quickly because it won’t require a full hearing.
It can be slapped down with a quick ruling that Calais already decided this shite.

It's funny with the Dems. They had 2 or 3 black candidates in the statewide primary for Governor. Who did they pick?
The nastiest, sorriest, whitest guy you could ever imagine. Funny that.
(Coach Tuberville is going to waste this POS. Again)

Statewide races = / = districts

I know. My point is, when the Dems have a chance to vote for a black person, statewide, nothing in their way, they go ahead and vote in a POS white guy.

I still don’t know how these two judges were Trump appointments. They have been a freaking disaster.
But yeah, SCOTUS is going to reverse this shortly. Hopefully these judges will get sanctioned or admonished.

I think it would go to the 11th Circuit Ct of Appeals first.

Thank you. This should ALWAYS be pointed out.. CNBC picking up the slack when MSNBC discarded.

So the court is saying the new maps are impermissible racial gerrymandering. But their solution is to create districts that do not dilute the black vote, or, in other words, an impermissible racial gerrymander.
They may (or may not - I have no idea) be right about the first part, but their remedy appears to be blatantly unconstitutional.

Were they confirmed by Turtle et al?

“ Yes, but how quickly? Seems like a stall tactic to do whatever they can to save/swing the midterms.”(quote LM)
Trump should let it be known that the DOJ will sue any Candidate elected via an Unconstitutional District, and for the election not to be certified, and for said Candidate not be seated in Congress. Nullification as it were.
Stall is their play just like the IRGC and Trump should get out in front of it.

Ignore the ruling as it’s been decided by the Supreme Court decision. As for the chatter of legality, answering the question with the recently announced statement should suffice

If a lower court makes a ruling that directly contradicts a recent SCOTUS ruling, not only should it be tossed immediately, but there should also be some disciplinary measures in place for those who make the contradictory ruling.
