No, I didn't forget a period in that.

LINK

TLDR: Imperial College were the main modelers that everyone based their lockdown decisions on. They threw a shitfit when it go t pointed out to them how wrong they were and continually deflected. It's likely it will be a career ender in the science community to point out their flaws.

quote:

Failure to act, they continued, would lead to near-certain catastrophe. As Ferguson and his team wrote, “[t]he only approaches that can avert health system failure in the coming months are likely to be the intensive social distancing measures currently being implemented in many of the most affected countries, preferably combined with high levels of testing.” In short, the world needed to go into immediate lockdown in order to avert the catastrophes predicted by their multi-country model.

How far off were they in their estimates? Oh ho ho:

But you should TOTALLY trust climate computer modelling.

Also: i'm back motherfrickers.

I mean they weren't THAT far off in the USA. Totally unmitigated I could see 2,000,000 elderly and obese dying pretty easily.

Right, only 95% off. That looks pretty close when compared to the others.

I figure, breathing is the risk I take for living life.

I take a chance everyday of my life that going out in public might mean I could catch the common cold, the flu, TB, whooping cough, radiation poisoned air, enterovirus, norovirus, adenovirus or even a new strain of coronavirus.

To me, a well-equipped immune system seems more fashionable than hazmat suit. But what the hell do I know. I'm no scientist.

You seem to suck at math. They were off by 50%

Secondly; I seriously doubt the Taiwan number of deaths is legit.

Covid modeling was an utter joke, but I need to try and act like one data point being ridiculously off when the real data for that point is highly questionable.

In most cases, they were basically off by 50%, which isn’t that bad in reality given how little was known at the start.

I don’t think this shows what you think it does. Japan, Taiwan and South Korea had some of the strictest Covid policies that extended past lockdown. Strict mask mandates and adherence to them, mandatory contract tracing and very strict travel policies. Contrast that with the US and Sweden where mask use and travel restrictions were mixed. Sweden having none at the beginning and then later implementing them.

And what if the US was padding COVID numbers in an election year? Other countries would not have felt the need to, or even thought to do so. Kinda confirms that the US, in fact, did pad the numbers when compared to the others, right?

Astrometria is your friend. Read it.

The US death total is fiction. If Taiwan had 10 deaths from COVID, then the US rate is like 12k. I doubt the numbers for both countries. The US total is definitely less than 500k.
