Have another drink, then find something new to whine about.

My wife is a clogger. Her and her sister won several awards for their performances growing up. Occasionally, we’ll go to the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC so she can clog. It’s interesting to watch and sip some shine in the back with the preacher. Visit an event like this and you’ll see how sobering the reality of what you describe really is. She’s the youngest clogger there at 31. Very few locals that leave for college ever return.
That said, I’m currently taking a brain tanning class and it’s full of men of the south with a passion for understanding the traditions and heritage of their ancestors.

Or find something new to dig into from the past. If the culture has fallen that's how you bring the Renaissance right. Or if you yearn for a better time then do what you can to live it best you can today.

I hope this meeting can happen. To discuss socioeconomic policies and their impact on broken orbital bones.

I would a million times rather see this than twerking.

Looks like my PE class back in the 80’s.

The birth of American music came from Mississippi.

If the South didn't exist then the music here in the states and around the world would sound much different and all the famous bands such as the Beatles wouldn't exist. Elvis, Cash, Hank Williams, Lewis and Perkins would never come to be if that hillbilly music with help from the blues didn't exist. Most music genres had influences from the South.

Trump should have picked Webb as his V.P. instead of the Deep State toad-licker Pence.
Webb is a Democrat, but not a typical liberal Democrat.
His book, Fields of Fire, based on his experiences in Vietnam, is a great read. I wish someone would do a movie with it.

Yes it is. Read it back in the early 80's.

Enjoyed the thread!
I laughed at people not understanding the difficulty in those instruments.
IGNORANCE... They are literally to dumb to even comment on it, yet they do.

Nice. Appalachian Clog Dance -- never heard of it till now.
Bullseye.
I share your sentiments 110%. I feel the same bitter-sweet remorse when I watch 'Leave It To Beaver' re-runs.
Our culture was corrupted and sabotaged. But it was glorious and unique, wasn't it?

This video is bittersweet, as it reminds me of the South's deep British roots. But it's also sad, because these people, more than any other, most embody the "American spirit", and yet they are the ones despised by our current political and media establishment.

You described music today. A handful of the same chords played over and over for 3.5 minutes each to millions of uneducated listeners that can’t think for themselves. Nothing has changed…

A simpler time. A commitment to family and community. Actual accomplishments that lasted. We were a better Nation because of people like this.

I enjoyed the video and now wonder if I can learn to clog. Nah, I am too clumsy. Life back then was so simple.

We learned to square dance in elementary school in the early-mid 1980’s. I think it was part of the PE or music curriculum every year. Then at some point in the year we had a show for the parents. This video reminds me of that.
I doubt kids do that these days, and sadly these expressions of traditional American culture have fallen by the wayside.
