The problem is raising the minimum wage will just shift "poverty" and they won't get off welfare.

still rather pay 15 for a Big Mac or go without, then have someone live with a poverty wage.
Funny thing about her statement is that even though she misused "then" when she was meaning "than", "then" is actually more accurate. Because the $15 Big Mac will be forcing more people to live with a poverty wage.

STOP being sheep...
The lefts main reason for keep trolling higher minimum wage besides vote pandering -- TAXES. This will not change poverty numbers besides increase those living in it.

Why are these people “stuck” in these jobs their entire life? Who’s fault is it if someone has never bothered to better themselves, never bothered to learn a skill, never been willing to work a little harder or go the extra mile in order to then qualify for a promotion?
I can tell you I didn’t do all that work because it was fun. I would’ve much rather been out partying and chasing tail than studying. Anyone that chose the easy/lazy route when young did so knowing what it meant.
Just because they look around and want what others have later in life doesn’t mean they deserve it. Basically, they made their own bed.

If she did this then she would be living in poverty herself

People making $16-20 an hour (which is a LOT of people even with degrees starting out) will find their buying power significantly diminished.

Minimum wage effects the whole labor tree
An apprentice fitter or plumber makes less then $15/hr to start. But can make $28/hr in 5 years. But that is a skilled labor employee.
I can tell the model that will take place. You will get no new apprentices that want to work in the heat/cold/weather of outdoors when they can make the same in a less demanding job.
Next business will hire less employees to do more work. (Only makes since, you get paid more, you should do more right) cost of product will go up and the buying power of the $1 will get you less because of the added labor cost to the product
Raising min wage in an already high unemployment economy is like asking for a raise in a bad economy. It wise to do. In a booking economy wages will start higher then min wage to draw in personnel. Also paying higher then min wage gets you a better labor pool.

quote:What percentage of adults meet this criteria? If only something like 3% of all US workers make minimum wage, then certainly that must include a bunch of pimply-faced high schoolers.

So what percentage of adults have become “stuck” making minimum wage?
Just curious.

I own a general contracting company in South Florida. Guatemalan folks without papers make 20 dollars an hour down here. Maybe the economy is just different in LA these days with the responses yall have.
Go to McDonalds and tell the blue haired 300lb pansexual you’ll give them $20/hour to paint for your company. Should be plug and play. It’s more money of course they will take the job.
And you don’t own a GC company. Your parents or a relative May, but you don’t. No one in any facet of commercial or residential thinks like you. It’s like me saying I’m a poet.

I owned a convenience store for awhile and sold it a couple of years ago. The only way I could make it was to work it at least 10 hours/day, at least 5 days a week. The only way I could keep my sanity and health was to have someone to relieve me the other times. If I had to pay someone $15/hour, I would have never bought it, and if it wage were instituted would had to shut it down if I couldn’t find a buyer.

So....... she admits she can’t afford a big Mac for 15 and would go without but somehow doesn’t see that in her own admission she just killed McDonals and now all of its employees are unemployed and completely poor? But hey atleast her virtues were signaled

Do people not understand what happens when you force business to increase their costs? Its the same fricking story over and over again whether its taxes, labor costs, materials costs, etc.
My costs rise? So do my products.
These people who are making $15 an hour will enjoy a very temporary happiness until they realize that the cost of goods has now risen to a level that makes their raise effectively useless. And thats assuming the business didn’t fire them to save costs to begin with.

Why are people stuck with minimum wage jobs ?
It would be interesting to see how the labor force reacts to a “living wage” being paid for a job a caveman could do. Would retirees come back to work and force out the younger workers? We hear complaining already about millenials not being able to find jobs...
The other thing to consider is that the $15/hr wage would become the new poverty line. Liberal politicians will be telling those same folks how bad $15/hr is and they deserve more.
And when do we go to stratified minimum wages that promote racial equity?
quote:
Idk I would say if a small business can’t afford to pay their folks 15/hr they probably shouldn’t be in business. This mostly effects large companies bottom line IMO. Which is why it is so politicized.
You are right, you dk
