Comcast upset over DirecTV Rob Lowe Commercials, Gets BBB to fight their fight

The DirecTV Rob Lowe commercials are apparently working and now Comcast is getting the BBB to fight DirecTV over the ads. The BBB is a joke. The extort money from businesses and has 0 credibility. For some reason people believe the BBB is some sort of agency with real power.

BBB is basically the same as a mob protection racket

They should have a sissy rob Lowe that gets other people to fight for him.
Hides in the corner while others take the beating.

The BBB is a huge scam and anyone that has run a business knows this.

Saw this story on the news. BBB claims DirecTV's customer service claims are unsubstantiated--this doesn't mean the DirecTV's claims aren't true.

And Comcast wonders why they have a lower approval rating than the IRS.

Was just coming to post this. What a bunch of pussies, man I hate comcast. Their building in Philly though is pretty sweet with a huge interactive tv.

As a consumer, I appreciate what the BBB is trying to do. I don't get the hate.
How is it different than other professional accreditation services, only as applied to the area of customer service?

Having people pay to be in good standing with the BBB is a real piece of shite move.

DTV should just pull the Fiji water strategy and hope it doesn't backfire.
"DirecTv. at least we're not Comcast."

If you're a member they cut you a lot of slack on complaints. If you're not a member they sort of blackmail you into becoming one if there is ever a complaint. Crooks.

The most recent Rob Lowe commercial with deadbeat Rob might be my favorite one yet.
I love the shoulder shimmy celebration he does after rolling dice. I want to use it the next time I play craps.

I guess you guys have some facts to back up those assertions. I don't have any knowledge of such things.
I will say this, my two experiences with filing a complaint with the BBB produced a fair resolution for me in both instances. Again, as a consumer, I appreciate the BBB, and I actually have a slightly higher opinion of companies who are members of the BBB, all things being equal.
I know it's far from a sure thing, and I'm sure it can be abused, or can be meaningless depending on the circumstances, but, again, I appreciate what they are trying to do. By conception, It's a positive market solution (albeit a limited one) to a common free market hazard - lack of information and lack of accountability.

I feel like they've been phoning the last few in.
Great marketing campaign though.

In today's internet world full of online reviews about products and companies, Angie's List, social media like Facebook that gives everyone an instant voice, I just don't see how there is a lack of information available to consumers.

That's a fair point, but honestly, online reviews are not worth shite. Half of them are trolls by competing companies, or by ignorant disgruntled douchebags, making them completely unreliable.
Besides, it's not just the nature of the "reviews" that is ostensibly provided by the BBB, it's the set of standards they supposedly exemplify/encourage and the complaint resolution process, which is possibly the best feature of the program.

I'm not too familiar with Angie's List, but wouldn't that be a similar type of thing as the BBB, only with the cost being paid directly by the consumer instead of the business?

I find the Rob Lowe commercials amusing but that doesn't make them any less tasteless. The DirecTV response tells you all you need to know. They consider the commercials so ridiculous that they don't feel the claims should require validation but I think they are likely giving most consumers too much credit. Bottom line: satellite TV is an inferior product to cable TV. As such the satellite TV companies pretty much have to lie and offer discount prices to attract consumers.
