For me its not about how long it holds ice. Its about the hinges and closure not breaking. The top not denting in from standing on it. The Yeti is worth the money because I have one that is over three years old with no damage other than cosmetic.

Awesome cooler for keeping ice for long periods of time, that you're not going in and out of every 30 minutes. Ideal for a camp where you don't have electricity, to keep food cold, or an offshore boat, or keeping ice on a deer/hog.

Fact of the matter is, if you're going in and out of it (like using it as a drink ice chest) it's not going to hold ice much longer than your standard maxcold igloo.

They're heavy as hell so they're not really practical to lug around, you can barely move it yourself when loaded.

I think the K2's are a bit lighter though, I would probably buy one before I'd buy a YETI.

I think you and I are of like mind and you see what I was getting at by my initial post. I own one and am pleased with it. I find it humorous how much of a lightning rod Yeti's have become on the OB.

it isn't a lightning rod. they got others pretty darn similar quality for darn cheaper. it's a branding issue and a status achievement for the poor who need to grip on to something in life before they off themselves.

I have lots of them and whether they are worth it or not depends on what you do with them. If you want to keep 12 beers cold while tailgating, then no, they would likely be overkill. If you are going fishing for three days with no access to ice, then yes they are worth it.

We actually give them away to clients at our law firm with logos on top like this...

Edited to avoid Motorboats's sharp criticism.

I agree with you. There are a dozen companies that make the EXACT same product for way less. I don't have use for an icechest like that, but when I do I'll be branching out to a different brand.

But will they take Yeti's back at Academy? That's the real question.

Probably but I've once heard of a strategy that you can just take the replacement igloo part out of the bag that you need when the coast is clear. They force you to buy a whole kit for one or two pieces.

I got one with all three of mine and expect the fourth. I do actually use the tumblars around the house.
