Look at it this way, your wife is cool as hell for getting you a pistola for Christmas. She tried so give her credit.
Blame the stupid arse salesman who sold her that POS gun. As for the guns quality, you just got da hood special. Might as well be a single shot because that's all you gonna get off.
Merry Christmas

Huh? So you're telling me it will jam after shoot one round?

No. It's a good gun for the price. The gun snobs on here can't help but deride "entry level" guns, but it's fine. Good woman to get you a gun of any kind.

I had an older one from the 90's and never had a problem...

Return it for a SPF 45, wait a year and she will forget what it looked like and will think its the one she got you. Or get a M&P,Glock 40.

Seriously -- the Hi-Pernts aren't as bad as they used to be. They're still pretty bad, but many of them go "bang" on subsequent trigger pulls.
No manufacturer seems capable of turning out 100% defective guns. Even Kel-Tec makes a few good ones.
And so does Hi-Pernt.
So if yours runs OK, keep it. If yours jams, sell it on GunBroker -- plenty of panic buyers still out there (You could list it as a "Tactical Model Hi-Penrt," and probably sell it for $800 to some yuppie in Aspen, Colorado).
FWIW the Hi-Pernts are no longer "The Gun of Choice" among the gang-bangers. A good friend works in the State Police Crime Lab matching guns that are recovered by cops with bullets that are recovered by the coroner. He says they usually see higher quality guns come through the lab -- apparently the drug business pays pretty well, and the thugs can afford just about anything they want.

They're hit and miss...inconsistent quality. hi-Points need a break-in period.
1. Oil it up and go out and blow 200-300 rounds through it...just have fun.
2. Then start keeping statistics. Drop another 200 rounds and keep count of any problems.
If it isn't reliable after that many rounds, then only use it for plinking or as a massive club, but do NOT use it for self-defense.
Though keep in mind that many of them turn out to be totally reliable, in which case you also have a home self-defense weapon.
Just don't let any of us see you with it...kind of like fat chicks and mo-peds...they can be alot of fun to ride, but you don't want your friends to see you with 'em.

Not my experience at all. I was given one and still shoot it from time to time. It never hangs up, in fact whats poor about it is how bad its worn out. It's very loose and sort of floppy/lots of slack. Shoots like a champ. My uncle gave it to me when I was in school to have a cheap gun for protection, but no lose if stolen.

Nothing wrong with high point. No they aren't top of the line but they do have a lifetime warranty and every one that i have shot has gone bang every time. I have one of their 995 carbines.
