I'm with you on the "no pistol in that situation" camp.
I am carrying a .44 mag revolver on each hip, and a lever carbine in .44 mag on my saddle.

I used to compete with a G19 and a G21. I would shoot hundreds of rounds a week for several years. I can count on one hand the number of malfunctions I had. Glocks just plain work.

My only issue is them still using plastic sights.
The grip angle has never bothered me even though my first handgun was an M9.

not really a concern for me since it's concealed.
which Glock do you CC? I really wish they had a better safety mechanism for the gun.

Above all else they are reliable!! I have 3 and love them all. They all fit my hands well and I’m more accurate with the Glock than any other semi-auto I’ve shot. They may not be pretty but I don’t carry or own guns based on the looks.

There are several manufacturers offering striker-fired polymer handguns with or without safeties if that's a concern, and several of them have proven to be so reliable (as are Glocks) that malfunctions are statistical noise. I'd look at the M&P line but they're not the only option.

I really like Canik Pistols as well

because they heard it in a song or heard someone else talk about it

I don't have one either, but this is why they are so popular from what I've read.

I think the Turks have a winner with these. We have sold a ton of them. I have a couple. Triggers are really good and they shoot well.

No safety on the VP9
I have a few Glocks. They shoot great.
GarandThumb did a test a on a bunch of pistols a couple of weeks ago.
Torture test. Drop in the mud and step on it.
Glock didn't fare well.
Surprisingly (to me as lest) the S&W M&P won.
The M&P also won the freeze test he did.

Oh, no doubt. I carry a Ruger. It's comparable on reliability. I just wanted to know if there was anything else that makes the Glocks stand out.
I agree, I just can't get with the grip angle (I know its probably fixable easy) but never had a pistol not fire on me that was made by Ruger, Sig, and HK. Now I dont throw my pistols in the frozen mud routinely and shoot them with ice in the barrel, so Glock wins there.
That being said, I think every gun owner should own a Glock just because, why not.

You didn't say what use you have for a handgun (hunting, plinking, etc.) But if it's for self-defense, you've already answered your own question:

They are reliable. I'll give them that.

what are the upsides to them other than simple reliability?
I can't think of anything that would be even remotely as important in relation to a weapon than reliability. To me the only thing that could draw away from that would be extreme cost.

The Rival has the best trigger on a striker pistol I have ever shot.
When do you guys expect to receive the Rival-S??

I don't know why they are so popular
It is the 4 cyl toyota tacoma of handguns.
And that's why I trust my life to them.
My 1911s are more fun to shoot. More comfortable. More accurate. Tighter. Smoother. And much more complicated...

I don't like that either, but it's also easily remedied. I put Glock OEM tritium sights on my G26.
