The emphasis on size and age of deer in modern hunting culture is fascinating.

We should all want to kill mature animals as but a grown man should never feel embarrassment or apologetic about killing a legal animal. Any legal animal.

Don’t underestimate the deliciousness of a yearling doe. The smaller the better.

You’re right though. I only kill a couple a year and usually make sure they’re at least 3 yrs old

Well. Personally, it’s more satisfying to kill a mature animal but that doesn’t mean Im a personal best or nothing guy.

If someone kills a LEGAL deer and is happy about I’m excited for them.

Why would you keep a big female bass?

They are so rare in south LA that if I ever catch a trophy, I will take measurements, pics and whatever else i need to do to get a replica made. I will not be keeping it. This technology wasn't always around though.

Same reason I'd keep a bream or catfish. To eat. I don't want trophies. I'd take a picture and eat it. I'm not throwing back food unless it's too small.

And you have every right to do so. I think that keeping those older fish or throwing them back is kinda like going through the five stages of being a hunter. It may take a little longer for some of us to reach the fifth stage, but if we live long enough we get there.

I took a guy sac a lait fishing one day. He wanted to release everything he caught. Then he wanted me to share what I kept. Those kind of people are in the same class of idiots that think they have to go 50+ MPH in their arse boats.

Every time I look at big fish people post, they get offended and want to throw them back.

because in this age of social media and liberal minded folks don't understand it.

It even happens when catching sailfish for example. People get mad if you yank it out of the water for a picture and release it.

Same with sharks. Go look at any social media post where someone killed a shark. Lord knows they aren't endangered any longer. But they cry "its their ocean..." etc.

Why does what a man fishes in trigger some folks?

I'll throw back a big fat spawning female and a little 10" buck bass but the rest are going in hot grease.

Someone needs to bring back the "Hoist your Fish" Thread. Thats a pretty epic thread that everyone would post a pic of the fish they caught that week, but you had to "hoist" it, as such:

There’s an appropriate middle ground here. I like what Chris Bush with Speckled Truth says….”keep what you need and release the rest”. That works for all fish. Promoting conservation is a very necessary thing but few people respond well to being shamed into decisions. It’s better to encourage people to slowly work their way up the conservation latter. Do conservation any way you please but I’m a big believer everyone should be finding some way to give back to the resource they enjoy.

Would spread that around too much, it's illegal to sell gamefish, in Louisiana at least. Of course, I guess you could give it someone who remembers they owe you money
