Model 70. Plus no plastic junk, traditional hinged floor plate, and a good trigger.

I looked into that after seeing it in a thread and it said it was discontinued, but I'm not sure if it's true. Even so, probably could pick up a used one.

Sako. Their actions are incredibly smooth for a factory rifle. It is like they are on ball bearings they are so smooth.

I was surprised at that as well. I had googled it and one of the searches that came up was "is the browning xbolt discontinued" and it said it was but I should have known better than to trust that. Thanks for clarifying.

ETA: some of them may be.

These must be certain models, but its a shite ton of models, on Browning's website.

I've heard these Tikka C-19 rifles issued to the Canadian Rangers are like glass

JP Sauer and Sohn make a pretty smooth action. Have 2 model 202’s and they are smooth as silk.

Definitely Sako as far as a mass produced rifle. You don’t have to pay $16-2500 for a new one. There are used ones everywhere, and the older ones are better guns imho. I have a .243 Forester, .270 AV, .308 75, and an old .30-06 Finnbear I’ve collected over a 20 year span. Paid $600, $725, $800 and $600 respectively for them and the .270 had a nice very old VX3 3-9x40 Leupold on it. Nothing you buy new is nearly as well made or as accurate with few exceptions. They’re not depreciating any either.

Where have you had the best luck finding used rifles? Both my Model 70’s were bought at Houston gun shows in the early 90’s, but were only a couple of years old and my boss at the time was a gun but who helped me inspect them prior to purchase. They’ve both been great, but I’ve got the itch to get another.

I have a Rem 700 BDL that is 20 years old as my everyday gun that is smooth, but the smoothest gun I own is a Weatherby Mark V 300 Wby Mag. It is a smooth as silk.

It’s a straight pull; but, the Heym SR30 is unquestionably the smoothest action I’ve handled.
