... from civilization (and pretty much people entirely) while solo hiking, camping, driving, or hunting? Any remote treks deep into the backcountry for solitude and/or adventure?

South Pass while fishing. There were probably others near me though. Did it once and didn't feel easy about it.
Then I find out my dad did it all the time in his 16' bass tracker....I'm not a hiker or western hunter, so I don't get too far away.

Kisatchie national forest
I don’t know, I’ve been to Colorado 20 years ago but not exactly sure how far we got from everyone.

Not so much an outdoor adventure, but back in the late ‘60’ early ‘70s I was so deep into the jungles of Southeast Asia that we would get Tuesday’s sunlight on Thursday.

I work in the middle of the GOM if that counts. If not, we hunt in central Kansas and the closest place to get fuel is 8 miles away.

Brooks Range, have no clue how close the nearest human was.

The Hudson Bay. By canoe. We traveled for 5 weeks without seeing a road. Traded furs with the Indians at Winisk. Arrived on August 12, 1990. Got flown back to Pickle Lake and found out from our bus driver that the Gulf War had broken out two weeks prior. I had smuggled a dog out of Landsdown House and got it all the way back to Toronto. Ended up bribing a girl $50 at American Airlines to get the dog back into the country without any shots or paperwork whatsoever. Caught a ton of walley, Brook trout, and pike. Killed geese every day with our paddles because they were molting and couldn't fly. Awesome trip.

Hoping to make it that far up the Dalton Highway soon. Maybe this summer. Been to Arctic Circle sign.

More than once I've been on the road on my motorcycle riding at 0-dark-thirty on some 2 lane state road and getting tired. I'll pull off the road and roll out my sleeping bag and take a nice nap if the weather is conducive to it and I'm in such a remote place that the night sky is fantastic to watch.
Living in N.O. doesn't offer night time sky viewing like it does in Bumfrick USA where there is no light pollution.

It's 10 miles from the house to fuel
For me north Nevada.
We turned onto this road and the sign said last fuel 168 miles.
We take off.
The gas station is closed.
It has a sign that says, next gas station 130 miles.
I do some quick math and we take off.
We eventually ran out. Emptied Roto packs. Then ran out again.
But in the middle of the desert up there was a rest area. Really nice. Two bathrooms and 10 picnic tables or so.
100 miles from anything.
I stood outside the ex's bathroom with an AR with a line of sight to the SUV. I pissed in the parking lot.
No doubt we were being watched the entire time.
Too many signs that a few people were around just out of sight.

Well, let’s see.....
Hiked up to the Ngwenya Mine in Swaziland once- it’s thought to be the world’s oldest at around around 40,000 years old. Absolutely amazing.
About ran out of diesel somewhere on the Mikumi Game Reserve in Tanzania once- I figured if we really did run out, we may be in a bind for a bit.
Been about 40 miles off the highway in Moab- ended up at a cave Cycle World Magazine had used for a photo shoot for Honda’s Africa Twin bike- thought that was pretty cool. Especially because we just stumbled upon it and it was very recognizable.
Tried to find a way up Mount Angouma in Cameroon once- got halfway ish up in a Land Cruiser and decided to call it- heard there were gorillas up there and wanted to see for myself. Angouma is 8 hours down a dirt road from the closest city, but only about 20 km from the village.
Hmmm, by myself, well....there’s this one spot. It’s in my will. Bout halfway between Isle Au Pitre and Halfmoon- it’s neat. You’re just out there by yourself. Totally alone- no one really passes out there. That’s where I want my ashes spread.

Northern Idaho snowmobiling. Was a few hours in when I realized I would be in trouble if something happened.

At the time it was peacock bass fishing up toward Rio Negro in the Amazon.2 flights from Miami, a puddle jumper to a dirt road town up in the Amazon, then a 3 hour boat ride in fishing boats up the Amazon. From there took a 45 minute copter ride to the Venezuelan border. No phone service, no radio service, no nothing. Would have taken months to "walk out" just to the Amazon river. Second time I went I brought a satellite phone from the U.S.
