Do coyotes attack people down your way?

I would rather have it and not need it than vice versa - even though I have a rifle. To each his own. XDS 9 mm.

Every coyote I've come across has quickly run away. I'd never be concerned unless I had a small dog with me. Hogs though, I can see carrying a pistol for them alone.

I just got use to carrying a pistol if I were in the woods/swamp hunting or not.

In the swamp, I use a Hi-Pernt .45...goes in the drink, no problem.

In the woods .40.

I don't understand why people can't disagree about something on an internet forum w/o criticizing or making fun of the opposing viewpoint. Why can't folks respectfully agree to disagree.

Why do you carry a sidearm while deer hunting?

Before this year, I carried a hangun while deer hunting intermittently. This year I carried one all the time, a Kahr CM9 9mm w/ extra 8 round mag.
.
On this years' AR doe hunt I shot 3 hogs. I was hunting w/ a 14" barrel bolt action 7-08 pistol w/ a 3-12X scope. One ran 15 yards into a thicket, but left a heavy blood trail. When I found the hog in the thicket, it was obviously hit hard. I put a finishing shot in it w/ my 7-08, but it would've been a whole lot easier to have done so w/ the CM9.

Sounds like your buddy's already got his mind made up so I wouldn't worry to much. The main thing is you have a reason for why YOU do things

Dad has been charged by hogs before sunrise walking to one of our stands. I’ll take my chance with a semiauto pistol vs a bolt action rifle especially when light is hard to come by.

Maybe it's just me, I can hit shite at both close and far range much easier with a long gun and one shot, than a pistol with multiple shots. I'm at home with a rifle of either bolt or lever action.

I also trust that my 270 or 30-30 will get the job done far, far better than a pistol caliber bullet.

Has high-powered rifle over shoulder. Feels undergunned in the Southern woodlands.

Does not compute.

I carry my Glock 40 with me, but I recently got a 9mm, so I may start carrying that instead.

Semi auto pistols fire quicker than a bolt action rifle if charged by hogs. That's my reason.

I agree with others here - I’ve practiced a ton getting my handgun out of the holster quickly and can do it faster than taking a bolt rifle off my shoulder.

When hogs are around - M&P core in 40 or FNS9 in 9 in a bladetech OWB paddle holster.

Sig P250 in 45
Never go in the woods without it. We are eat up with hogs and we have plenty of black bears. I don't know if I could kill a bear with a 45 but if attacked I could always save the last round for myself.
