Wife and I went to Guntersville back in October and fell in love with the place. Beautiful scenery and great fishing!

Not only is the lake near perfection the surrounding area is fantastic. Would live there in a heartbeat.

If money is plentiful, I'd have a decent house in Duluth MN and somewhere in-town on the Gulf such as Mobile or Houston for summer and winter respectively.
Then for long weekends a camp up-country a few hours on 5-10 acres with a pole barn on the Mobile or Pascagoula Delta, and a cabin in some national forest just off Lake Superior.
My buddy has two cabins built by his grandpa about 10 miles off Lake Superior. They're on a small quiet lake. They're about 100' apart so you can have guests come visit and everybody still has some privacy. It is amazing.

Lake Ouchita in Arkansas. Most of it is a national park and undeveloped so very low traffic. Can buy homes/Condos in southern portion.
Mountain Harbor resort has nice homes/condos for sale and has a spa, horseback riding, pools, boat launch, largest marina in the state with a really good restaurant. Lake is very clear and has fantastic diving. Over 300 islands offering great hiking, camping, etc. Some of the best striped bass fishing in the state. 30 minutes from Hot Springs which is full of stuff to do.

In Missouri: Truman if it wasn't a Corps lake. Id like to be closer though. I love fishing it.
In Louisiana. I grew up on Darbonne, So I would probably go there, but I like Claiborne a lot too. Toss up there

Any lake that has decent fishing and in a state without income tax! So I'm thinking something in Texas or Tennessee to begin with.

Reality is, the wife wants to retire on a "pretty" lake and the only ones in that group that comes close to her idea of "pretty" is Claiborne or Palestine. I have an 8th grader and a 2nd grader so our plan is to wait until we have an idea of where they may settle and try to find a spot in between.
In short, I won't have a whole lot of say

Lake Bacalar in the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It's considered the most beautiful lake in the world. Good fishing and and great people watching.
