Chupacabra is the only correct answer.

Must have been a baby. Whatever it was came and left through about a 3 inch hole in the wire.

Perfect example of a mink or ferret and I would expect the former unless somebody lost a pet ferret. Those mink are really sneaky baztards and it seems they can steal your trap bait anytime they want to.

When you say adolescent cat, how big/small are you talking about? If you’ve got a local owl my money is on it. The shite on the other hand I can’t answer, maybe a homeless

Well it was decapitated and dead. Didn’t seem like a full grown cat but I guess it could have been.

I also assume an adult cat wouldn’t find itself getting decapitated by a 1-2 pound bird.

Killer whales or Orcas kill Great Whites and only eat their livers. They kill Seals and only eat certain parts, like the head. I think I have heard they kill those big whales by hunting them in packs and only eat their stomachs leaving a gigantic carcass to waste.

OP....You seen any signs of Orcas around?

Barred and great horned owls are known to kill full size adult cats. They can kill and carry up to 4 times their body weight.

Killer Whales are usually in pods. I suspect if it were Orcas he’d be finding more headless corpses than just the two...

BUT, let’s not rule it completely out just yet.

Weasels do that. Had one get into my coop one night and took out 14 chickens and 2 turkeys. Ate off several of the heads and the rest were just killed. All appeared to have been bitten on the neck.

Didn’t see it but the size hole that was made for it to get through was too small for a coon or possum. I checked with our Department of Conservation and they said probably weasel as this was what they did. Just a bloodlust killing.

Behind the house in the woods I've got horned and barred owls, coins and red fox.

Couple years ago something was systemically taking out the kids ducks and eating only their heads. I figured it was coons but then my wife changed the angle of one of our security cameras and we caught the fox on video doing it.

I always figured a fox would take the whole damn thing so I was honestly surprised.

Great horned owls kill full grown turkeys, grey foxes, raccoons, etc. A house cat is easy prey for them.
