I know about the bypass.

Good. Just wanted to be sure you knew before shelling out the cash.

I know that they extended the warranty for it, but our trucks are past even that.

It’s a shite design, for sure. And it’s definitely condensation, not high water. Mine hasn’t had it despite me driving fast through high water more times than I can count.

When my time comes, I am bypassing. Hopefully that guy is still in business then.

On the life of the truck I'm right at 14mpg. Hope that helps.

My wife had an 06 - that was previous generation, of course, but it was averaging about 16, 16.5 - having never driven a 5.7L regularly, my expectation would be 14 or 15mpg average.

Meh - that's literally a combat proven, legendary, metaphorically bulletproof engine. Change fluids, water pump, timing belt on schedule, and the occasional alternator and it will run forever.

13,200

Honestly, towing that much with a half ton is scary. If you want to tow 13,000 pounds because you really have your heart set on a 5er, you owe it to yourself and the people who you are sharing the road with to get a 3/4 ton.

Read the RV forum posts from people who have pulled 13K with those 13K rated F150s. They don’t report a pleasant experience; they’re very squirrelly at that weight and you basically have a puckered butthole the whole time. The consensus is that while it’s possible, and legal, it’s not really something you actually want to do.

Yep. It’s not pulling it, it’s stopping it.

I had a Tundra, now have a Silverado. Am happy with it.

Slight power difference, but not huge. Torque is what matters and 383 vs 401 isn't a big difference.
Fuel mileage greatly improved.
Slightly smaller back seat.
Rides much better.
Apple Carplay. I don't think I'll own a vehicle without it from now on.

I think the Tundra is a good and well made truck, but in 2018 it's just a bit old and outclassed. I'd really like to see Toyota invest in it.

It's 26hp.
Tundra 5.7 has 381hp/401tq
Silverado 5.3 has 355hp/383tq

Just traded my 2010 with 205,000 miles in for a 2018 a couple months ago. 2010 averaged about 15.5, 2018 is averaging 16.5 so far

The 5.3 is an entirely different platform (LT) now. About the only thing it shares with the LS 5.3 is displacement.

First, it's not 102 hp.

Second, it was not a noticeable difference, and the engine horsepower is measured differently between the two manufacturers.

Third, I drove both of them. Took both home for a day and tested them in real situations. They were extremely comparable. The Chevy 6 liter engine smoked both of them.

And if you really need more horsepower, get a real truck. Personally, my next truck will be a Duramax Diesel.

The 4.7 is the bullet proof small V8 UZ engine used in the 2000 through 2009 models. This is the engine Toyota did the Million Mile Tear Down on and everything was still within manufacturing tolerances.

The 4.6 V8 UR engine with direct injection started with the 2010 models. It replaced the 4.7 engine.

Had a 2013 Ecoboost. biggest POS truck I have ever owned. Ford customer service sucked. Traded on the Tundra and love it. It may not have all the bells and whistles but it’s a truck. The Tundra pulls anything I need it too including broke down F150’s.
