I was working one day and parked on an oil field road. There was a young buck standing in the old logging deck across the road from me. I got out and put on my cruise vest and he was just standing there watching. He eventually starting walking to me. I reached into my truck and grabbed something to try to feed it. First was pumpkin seeds, which he didn't like, but he loved the peanut butter crackers. Grabbed my phone and took a selfie with it to show folks and went on with my day. Wish I knew where I saved those pictures.

I didn't see any sign that it ever had a collar, but he was clearly raised by someone. In the area I was in, I'm sure he was shot that season.

I shot a canvasback in the middle of the woods waddling along in a dry ditch while squirrel hunting in January. Don't know how it got there.

Saw a lil Yorkie running the hide off of a big 8 pt while I was squirrel hunting.

This morning some Amish dude was riding down the road on his buggy. I watching him while hunting and he stopped. A dude ran out of the woods, threw something in the back, and ran back into the woods. Amish dude started moving again.

On one foggy morning, the sun was coming through the trees and fog and I noticed a translucent holographic shape changing blob floating up the trunk of a tree. It was like the fog and sunlight took the cloak off of an alien lifeform about the size of a small car. Got the hell out of there, Usain Bolt style.

Watched a squirrel lose its grip and fell out of a tree twice as high as me so 30-40 feet. Hit the ground like it wasnt nothing. I laughed out loud.

Had a doe bust me and ran off then 3 mins later came flying back by me. She circled back to where she ran off to again and back again. This time a buck hot on her tail. She rain right out in front of me like she knew I would take care of her problem which I obliged the young lady.

Ever since 1983 1984 or so, I always find balloons in the woods. Deer or squirrel hunting, I’ve found probably 2 dozen of them. Found another one this year squirrel hunting a property I’ve never hunted before.

I was deer hunting along Dorcheat on high ground sitting up next to a big ole oak tree. I was looking around and I saw a turtle shell. I was a couple hundred yards from the water. Then I saw another one under the leaves. And another and another. Ended up with a dozen of them around this tree.

I assume that's an owl. Could be a raptor. Hadn't thought about squirrels hoarding them.

Hell, I believe you simply because you didn't say it was black.

Several years ago I invited a friend to my place and put him in a two man ladder on a power line. I was in another stand 600-800 yards away. I heard him shoot and figured he had one down. I waited a while and then started his way in case he needed help finding the deer.

I turned the corner and saw he was still sitting in the stand. I whistled at him. And he was pointing and laughing at something I couldn’t see. Waving at me to come on.

When I got closer I could see he had shot a big doe about 30 yards from the stand. Deer was laying on the ground graveyard dead. There was a young buck hanging around her trying his best to breed the dead doe.

I walked all the way to the stand, climbed up into the stand with him and the buck 30 yards away never paid us any attention at all.

We sat there for an hour watching this happen. Talking in normal voices, and even tried to get the buck to leave, but he was determined! He tried all kinds of positions. Lol. I thought we were going to have to shoot him or fight him to be able to drag out the doe.

I was in a lease in the swamp. Boat only to hunting spots.

There was a box blind called the “bat blind”. There was always a bat hanging upside down in there for years.

Also saw an otter cross a logging road at that lease while sitting in a stand.

I occasionally watch the Kincaid Lake live cams of the eagle's nests. One of those pairs brings a shot-ton of turtles to the nest. Mostly mud turtles.

That reminds me of another thing while cruising timber.

I reached point center and was setting up the DME when I heard a hiss. Looked around for a snake and didn’t see one. Started entering data and heard it again. I was surrounded by head high beautyberry, so I thought maybe it was a rat snake up off the ground. Started looking around and found a bat hanging on a branch next to me.

I shot a big bodied 4-pt about 4pm one afternoon a few yrs back. Peak rut, about dark a doe with a bigger buck with her came by, same trail 4 pt walked and was still laying dead beside. Bigger buck starts bowing up and commences to whipping this dead 4pts arse and moved him like 10’ on the ground. 4pt was all scuffed up, 250-ish live weight guesstimate. Shoulda shot that second fricker too but said “I’ll get him tomorrow”…and ain’t seen him since.

When I was a kid my brother and I would fish this shallow pond beside the house. Some years it would have 'snake blooms'. We would get out there and just go murder hobo on all the snakes but we got them beat back because the bream fishing was amazing. Every cast with a beatle spin.
Then we saw a snake out on a log that was too big to believe.

This was a snake that has like fat hanging off the sides. Very wide. Either a water snake or the biggest cottonmouth that ever lived. Or something exotic. But at the time we were both saying over 8 feet. It was doubled on itself on this log and that was not an unreasonable assessment though now I think it could have been seven.

So being the older brother I sent my future SEAL brother home to get a shotgun. He returned and he blasted it at about 25 yards on the log from shore. It popped it's head up and flashed the stereotypical cotton wide open mouth of a cotton mouth, then it turned and bit it's wound. It then went back to displaying and he shot it again in the head and that was that. The snake didn't fall off the log.
So we got the canoe out.

Now this is where we had a problem because the frog man has a serious phobia of snakes. And I'm not far off but we tried to get it with paddles and nope.

So we have zero proof of any of this. But he had a really high level clearance at once point and we both have the same story.

Biggest cottonmouth ever.

In a split second I saw the pitch black darkness of a 4 am night turn into bright blue afternoon sky. I thought it was Jesus's second coming. Absolutely scared the crap out of us. We were on our way to duck hunt in NE Alabama. Later on we saw the news that it was a meteor.

Not weird, but I was in a deer stand with my Dad (I was a young cat). Early morning pitch black cold af. Little did we know an owl was in the same tree on a branch behind us. It let out the loudest hoot and we both almost fell out of the stand.

Same place, we had a fresh heavy rain and while we were walking out from our hunt (another time), we see these dark red balls in the water. Probably see 10 or more. Walk up to check it out and it's fire ants.

Those of you who hunt rice fields have probably seen this but I was hunting a managed duck impoundment that once was a rice field on the coast of Georgia one morning and just as soon as we finished setting the decoys all 3 of us started getting ate up by fire ants. It was too dark to see what it was but as soon as the morning flight was over we found ourselves crawling with fire ants....I mean getting ate the frick up. The field we were hunting had been flooded about 3 days before we hunted it and there fire any mounds floating all over the damned thing....and anytime you brushed up against one the whole lot of the damned things abandoned ship, I guess figuring anything moving was headed to higher ground. None of us would have minded helping the shipwrecked frickers out BUT as soon as they could they started trying to eat their hosts. We limited out in about 90 minutes and as soon as we got back to the hill stripped off to our drawers and evicted the bastards by jumping in the drainage ditch....we had a 3 hour drive home and my truck was infested with the damned things for about a month. I have since seen floating ant hills and have managed to avoid them like the plague....
