Fished Hopedale Saturday and only managed three keeper sheepshead by the dam. Water was dirty everywhere we went. At around 10 I told my crew let’s call it. No sense trying to make something out of nothing.

Fished Bayou B on Sunday. Launched at Eddie Pintos around noon planning to catch Reds and bass. Found a nice bank where I caught 17 reds and a bass. I brought 8 rods and caught a red on every one of them. They were hitting everything. Lots of fun. Finished the evening off stopping at the rocks and bagging a 22” trout. Overall great day of fishing.

Thinking of hitting up Matagorda or Sabine later this week. Been pond hopping around near home catching some bream/bass with some buds.

When you say Bay St. Louis, do you mean in the bay itself or Jourdan River/Bayou Lacroix marshes?

Why the shortage of bait ya think? Results of last winter? Even hwy1 roadside has been slow this year for the most part.

ya, i had almost forgotten about it myself it was so short but last year we had a hard freeze for 2 weeks that killed most of the breeding class of specks that were inside as well as most of the bait fish.

someone reminded me about it and then i remembered the stories of hundreds of starving pelicans littering the road sides, beaches, and banks of canals from lack of food.

its gonna be damn tough next year too and maybe the year after that as this years class of hatch is smaller in numbers and they need to get big enough have another year to get a good year of hatch to restore speck populations. hence the few but nice sized fish caught earlier this year, or finding nothing but a bunch of 6-8" fish and not much else caught. specks dont breed until they reach 10" which is why the 12" limit to give them one year to breed before you can keep them

if you notice the reds are plentiful but they arent very fat, most are long and skinny signalling less food supply to fatten up on

Kemo, you got any insight into Black Lake? I figured it’s the only place with decent water. Thinking of hitting the some reefs with Fat Boys.

You might be on to something, was dirty Saturday and no time yesterday to check it out. Lake will be muddy for a couple more weeks if we don’t get some prolonged north wind.

No shite? I've fished some seriously dirty/fresh water in the bay, but never caught a freshwater cat there. I'm hoping it can clear up soon.

Went last week and ended the day with 15 Reds, one was the biggest I have ever caught... but not trout to be seen. Obviously because of all the fresh water there has been. It’s been slow but still refs there.

When you said Matagorda i figured you were after trout. Guess you will need to watch the wind then since those rubber lips are still there.

I may put the yak in at Little Saline on Sunday if the ducks aren't flying on Saturday. Which probably means I'll be putting the yak in Little Saline.

Yep. I was hoping to get a few more trips in before the hunting guides make their way back to the lake but that looks like a pipe dream at this point. November to February is my favorite time to be out there.

Interesting. I've only ever caught hardheads and stingrays fishing on the bottom in the Bay. Caught some reds on a cork before, though

That’s pretty much what I use all of my vacation days on. My weekends off are rarely weekends off.
