Anybody got a rec for a decent/good vacuum sealer? Got one years ago and never did my wet meats (fish & deer) that good and looking to upgrade. Nothing special and not looking to break the bank. Want to be around the $200 range.

For wet meats you are gonna want a chamber vac sealer. Look at Vevor. Might be a little pricier than you wanted but wayyyyy better than a Food saver.

I'd go at least 10"X13" for bag size

Looked at those but man they are bulky. Caught some tuna recently and used my dad’s sealer, old school cabelas one, that wasn’t chambered and did great.

Just make sure it's a chamber style. They are far superior to the alternatives.

I put the cuts on a piece of parchment paper and freeze before vacuum sealing. Don't have to worry about liquid getting sucked out.

They no longer make his brand/model anymore. Was a Cabelas. Wasn't sure if anybody had any experience with ones not chambered, but seems like they are the way to go

Get a chamber vacuum sealer and don’t look back. If you do any kind of fishing regularly it’s a game changer. Moisture will no longer be a problem, you can literally seal up a bag of water. Anytime we make a gumbo or any type of soup the leftovers get vacuum sealed now.

Vevor probably the best value. I have a Cabela’s brand and it’s been awesome. You will have to get different bags. Mine doesn’t like the textured bags and I have to use smooth bags.

Costco sells a good one. I think it’s 400.

We have two Food Savers and they are fine for incidentals but then I bought a Vevor chamber sealer and it has been a godsend. The very first thing that I tried in order to prove it to myself was to seal a bag of water that was then left to lay on the kitchen counter for months as evidence. The chamber sealer has preserved many fish and thousands of pounds of pork and beef that the family butchered and sausages that were made as well.

I use the foodsaver 4400. If I'm trying to vacuum seal a soup or a stock I do it two ways. Option 1, orientate the bag vertically below the sealer then stick the top of the bag in for the vacuum and seal. Option 2, put the soup or stock in a container, freeze it, then take the frozen item out of the container and vacuum seal it.

I'm sure it is not as good a chamber vacuum sealer but it works for me and isn't as expensive or bulky.

Side note I've used this to seal tons of fish and game with no issues.

Chamber sealer is the way to go. I have one that operates with an oil pump. I’ve had mine for 10 years and it gets used multiple times daily from sept-March and multiple times per week for the rest of the year. It’s a significantly better than the suction style. Higher initial investment, but they operate better and the bags are much less expensive.

ETA: the frickers are heavy, so you need to find a designated space for it if you go that route. Mine stays in the shop at the lodge during hunting season and in my shop at the house outside of hunting season.

I can see how this would work but I often have large amounts of fish filets (over 50 lbs). That would be a royal pain in the arse to do regularly with large amounts of meat.

I agree. My father in law has a Vacmaster VP230 chamber sealer. I know it’s expensive but he and I both think it was worth every penny. Can you find chamber type vacuum sealers for $200 though?

No but I spend far more than that on boat, gear, gas, etc. chasing the game so it’s definitely worth the extra 200 for me.

Worth it for me too. After using the Vacmaster I’m not sure I’d buy anything else

Check out JVR. Completely serviceable, with all parts available. Highly reviewed, but not cheap. I can promise you will be disappointed

I bought the Vac100 about 3 years ago because it fit on the counter and under the shelves of my pantry, it’s low profile. Flawless, so far, and it gets used a lot. Change the oil in the pump once a year, which is easy

To add. If you’ve never used a chamber vac, it is a game changer. Every thing frozen is flat. IE, fish, shrimp, meat, chopped up veggies frozen in small 1 cup bags, etc. I’ve got baskets in my upright so everything is like a filing cabinet with older to the front and new in the back, by category. No digging around for shite. Vac bags are cheap and rarely use a ziploc.

Pretty big initial investment. But worth it in spades if you put up, and use from the freezer a lot

I need a new vacuum sealer too my old foodsaver finally crapped out. Americas Test Kitchen has the anova ranked as best buy plus it’s not a gargantuan machine that you can’t move around

LINK

279 bucks. Reviews are good. For occasional use I think this is the one I’m going to get
