Used Truck market is nuts! Where do you shop?

I’m gonna buy my son a used 4x4 truck.
The market is crazy and prices are nuts, but there is so few trucks for sale. Where is the volume? Where do you shop for trucks?

buying used makes very little sense right now to be honest.
My son is turning 16 in a couple of months. He's getting my Sequoia. I'm due to get a new one and that's what I will be doing. Not sure which new truck I'm getting at this point (most likely a new Tundra) but I will not be in too much of a rush (I'm still WFH)

I've been buying my trucks from Mississippi Direct for a few years now and have had nothing but a great experience. I've placed their link below.

The only luck I had was talking to dealers, telling them what I was looking for and asking them to watch for trade ins that matched my needs. I was lucky as I have a friend that works for a dealer and he took an F-150 with 84K miles on a trade. I basically bought it sight unseen and put a deposit on it after only seeing pictures. They are making their deals on new trucks but then ordering the new trucks and selling the good used one before it ever hits their inventory. I got to see it in person like 4 weeks later and he ran it through the shop for 130 point inspection. We basically had a gentleman’s agreement. He gave me a good price but probably more than I would have paid 2 years ago but he could have sold it for more in a week if it hit the lot. It took about 18 months for me to finally buy a truck.

I got in on the early part of the Covid truck thing when they were cheaper, but I would assume the same thing as now just search all the car websites and the Houston and Dallas places. There are some big websites that show it like texasautodirect (I think) and enterprise and various others like that.
However, with the used ones being so high, it almost makes sense to buy a new one as someone mentioned. Or look around town for "for sale" signs or keep an ear open with friends.

I bought my son a 2000 4Runner with a 4 cylinder engine about 6 years ago for $3200. Just check the value on it and Edmunds says it is worth $3200 and Car max is offering me $3400 for it right now.
Insane.
Insane.

I could sell my now 4 year old truck with 52k miles on it for more than I paid for it. Absolutely insane.
I went look for a beater to trade it in for, since the prospect of making money on a 4 year old truck sounded too good to pass up. You can't buy an old and busted POS truck for under 10k right now.
I found a 2008 Ford half ton with 250k miles and needing work for 12k

Gen 3 4Runners are hot right now, if it’s a clean 2WD you could probably get $5000-$6000. If it’s 4x4 probably $8000+.
Which makes me sad because I’d been eyeballing one for a daily driver and 18 months ago a super clean 4x4 Gen 3 was about $6000.

The Texas market is still highly competitive. I think it’s probably my best bet for fair prices.

He currently has a 2014 F150 5.0 w 145k
I’ve had numerous problems w it. So I’m done. Next check I write will be for a diff truck.
I can sell it for more than I bought it for.

Yeah it’s insane. I got an offer from a dealer for my 2019 Sierra for $46k. I’ve had it for 2.5 years and it has 80k miles. I paid $44.5k for it

I’m holding off on purchasing as long as possible. It may frick me it may not but going to find out. Hoping once the dealerships catch up the prices will drop.

Pretty funny that I've had 3 down votes when this is not uncommon:
Do some of you people think the dealer is going to sell that for less than 50k?
A 3 year old truck that cost you more than what it was when new and 80k miles on it.
Yes.
Buy used.

That's where I was looking before i got lucky locally.
Same trucks were 7k less expensive and shipping was 2500 bucks. No idea now but this truck market has gone nuts.
I just saw a 2011 Chevy 3500 HD with 85k miles listed for 52k.

I better get a million outta mine.

Had no intentions of buying anything, but bit the bullet and ended up ordering a 22 F150 about a month ago. Couldn’t pass up the deal I’m getting on my trade-in that’s nearly paid off. Never thought I’d buy a new truck but here we are in these strange times.
