That link didn't work for me so I couldn't read it, but did the Sig offering win out?

I remember reading about the 3 they were gonna pick from and thought the Sig was pretty damn cool. I remember one of the others was gonna use plastic casings or something weird to reduce weight.

Look for a trend to then standardize around .338 for precision weapons and crew served. Every time they add something like this, the ordnance baws scream, "Hey - how many cartridges do you guys want to stock?"

And they're right. A typical gun guy might have 8 to 10 long guns in 4 or 5 calibers (counting shotguns). That's daunting enough. With hundreds of thousands small arms and billions of rounds processed every year, the Army and Marine Corps have a logistics challenge of an entirely different scope.

Wonder if they'll make that with this short of a barrel?

That would be fine. From what I've read the Norma is at least equal to the Lapua for long range and would be a good replacement for the 7.62/.308 machine guns.

But I don't get the .50 comparison. The article says it has similar terminal effects, even on vehicles, but the energy numbers aren't even close; you're talking about a third of the energy of a .50 cal. If it really does what the article claims, great, because the .50 just isn't feasible for dismounted anything, but I'd like to see an explanation for how the bullet performs that well.

But the female Navy Seal Commanders will be able to use it when they lead their men into battle.

It doesn't, this round is not a heavy MG replacement. This pretty much covers everything below that role though, light and medium machine-guns.

Blame the shitty, stubborn dumbass leadership of companies like Colt, Remington, and others.

There's no way it can compete with the M2 in any way except less weight. They're not comparable.

Look at this round the same as the 9mm vs .45 or the .223 vs .308

Soldiers will be able to carry more rounds with the same weight.

The .338 nm is a very good long range round and would be very good on personnel.

But can it drop a buck at 200 yards as good as a .223 can? That's all the OB is worried about

How much is this costing us the tax payers and what is the justification besides a higher grade on some virtual war games?

Actually, Colt submitted a very innovative design for the USMC IAR request. Of course, politics took over and they awarded H&K the contract.

Interesting article until I got to the 6.5CM. Don't see all the fuss with this caliber.
