You're right. Nobody wants to hear about the good trips. Everybody wants to hear about when I was a pussy and ruined a whole trip for everybody because my body decided it should try to execute me

Headed to Colorado september this year bragging to my buddy how good my truck has been so far. ‘19 f150 3.5 4x4. Take a pic when odometer rolled 100000 just outside of dallas. 100004 hits…..transmission overheats, turbo shuts down, some sensors stick and im on side the road at 1pm on a saturday. 7 thousands calls later my truck is aa a dealership in Decatur and im in an uber headed to the airport to pick up a rental. 10 days later and $2000 in repairs and rentals im headed back home with my biggest bull to date (4 guys all killed bulls) and my first ever mulie. Turned out to be a great trip.

I had a suspicion that you were somebody that knew me well enough to know about what I spend on hunting in a year. Then I saw your location and this comment. I really thought somebody was messing with me
I afford my hobby just fine, and I’m off 4 weeks this month and 3 last month to chase whitetails. So I’m good. I’d just consider busting a $1,300 rear windshield a low point of the trip. Wouldn’t most folks?

Pics of your trailer setup and details?

Here’s a few pics. It’s not completed yet, but everything works now that I got the hot water heater to work. The hot water heater was given to the guy that installed it, brand new in the box, for the guy that said these things should’ve been lined out. Also, somebody mentioned using a trailer instead of putting my bike in the bed… I have one, but I wasn’t making 2 trips here and 2 trips back, 4 hours 1 way, to bring my camper and bike separate. I had and sold a 8.5x24’ enclosed trailer conversion with a full bathroom, bunk beds and could still fit a SXS, but I’m not married, no kids, and I hunt alone 99% of the time so it was unnecessary. This one is, I think, 7x14. The mini split is definitely the way to go. The hot water heater is an excel ventless, so no extra holes had to be cut in the sides of the trailer.

I’ve been hunting for 40 years. This season I killed my first elk and first mule deer. I still get buck fever. I guess when I don’t I’ll quit.

Why would someone go through the trouble of building some half-assed camper when you can buy the real thing for less than 1k?

I wanted something pretty specific. I wanted small, with a shower and shitter, and tandem axle. You’re not gonna find that in a mass produced camper. So I went the “half-assed/poor/can’t afford it” way. The mini split ac/heater is a huge bonus too. Those rooftop units don’t compare. I feel like you don’t know much about campers, or not being a douche.

Good and bad things happen when you do stuff. If nothing bad is happening, you just aren’t doing anything. Props to you for staying in the saddle, eventually some good will happen to outweigh the bad.

If everything goes right I know I'm probably not going to kill anything. If my boat motor starts on the first pull I know I'm probably not shooting anything.

eta: nice trailer, I want one.

Nice trailer BTW.
Yeah I have had those downs several times. Seems like they come in waves too.
Lose the cell phone walking out and have to go back and look for it find it but now running late to get to a prior commitment and load up four wheeler in trailer but hurry up and set bow down on the ground and say to myself that’s a bad idea. Get a phone call as I’m hurrying to strap down bike and jump in truck and back over bow and break 5 arrows but don’t break bow just pushed limb and riser into soft mud.
I tell my wife all the time when you spend 30-60days running around through the woods dark till dark chasing wild animals shits gonna happen stuff is gonna break blood is gonna fly.

They make small campers, and most of these old ones that are so cheap are on the small side by modern standards.
Mini split is a plus, but requires a genset that a camper probably doesn't need for heat, which is predominantly used in hunting season.
I am surely an a-hole, but you still give off vibes of someone who spends way more than they should on their hobby.
