That’s pretty impressive at 45 yards

Those nitro shells seem to do pretty well. They came in a truck that I bought used. I should have switched out my choke from duck season, but I was lazy.

There's about 750 pellets in that load lol
Edit. I Assumed he had the Nitro TSS. Nevertheless, it's still a damn good load out to 45 yards.

Somewhere there’s a turkey ready to respond every day. Just gotta find him.
I’ve worn out a lot of pairs of boots with this thought in the back of my head.

These Tennessee turkeys sure are a lot easier to kill than the Louisiana variety.
Two down on Saturday with a group of wounded vets.

Hoping to try for one next weekend. So far I have practiced my calls and they are successful at annoying the teenagers. I have threatened to wake them up with that if they don't get moving on school mornings.

It has been a quiet season for me so far. My in-laws land is in the county that historically produces the highest turkey harvest in SC. We opened April 3, and I have hunted 4 times.
Opening day - nothing, not even a gobble.
April 7 - saw two hens from across the field from where we see them a good bit on camera. Hunted that morning from sun up until about 10:30. No toms.
April 11 - nothing. FIL was hunting a creek bottom about 500 yards from me, and he saw a pair of jakes on the other side of the creek.
This morning - tried a new spot on a ridge/road that is heavily wooded on one side, and thinned with hardwoods on the other. We kill deer here pretty frequently, and I saw turkeys twice last fall during deer season. I had one rattling the trees behind me but down the hill. Never could get it close or even see it today.
I will try again Saturday, but they are calling for 90 degree temps here. May be my last go at it this season which is unfortunate.

Missouri. The main flock flew down in a field 100 yards away. This one showed up, unannounced, 10 steps to my right, looking to join up with the flock.

My son (in school at AR) is in western OK this weekend with his roommate and another close friend who’s from there.
His roommate got one this afternoon. They roosted a bunch this afternoon and headed back in the morning.
The birds are merriams. So far this year my son has a Rio and an Eastern. If he gets his merriam, he will has 3 of the 4 legs of the grand slam.
I’m jealous to say the least but more proud than you can imagine.

You’re welcome.
First year in almost 20 I haven’t hunted that area.
Took the safety off 4 times this morning. Old bastard wouldn’t give me a clear shot thru the mesquites. At one point he was standing next to a mule deer about 70 yards away, both staring in my direction. Fun hunt nonetheless, they were ripping in the dark until 9:45. Once the sun got high and the wind kicked up it petered out. I’d still be out there, but I have to bring wife to the Strait concert this afternoon.

In SW MS they are absolutely killable mid day right now. Won’t pay a lot of attention early but hens are leaving them and mid day they are very vulnerable. I no longer shoot them just chase them without a gun. Have had 3 within 15 yards the last three days. All after 9 am. Little hammer limited out this am at 1023.

Hammer, were they pretty vocal for yall this season and lately?
Also SW MS, but they have been pretty quiet since the first couple weeks. Birds were in our area opening week, but have disappeared since. Granted, I only hunted a few times. Hunted a couple times in LA, they like the neighbor’s property more!
Did have one come in today around 10:30-10:45 but silent. It rained from about 7:45-10am. As soon as the rain slowed down, I went to the edge of a clear cut and started calling. Bird came in quick and I hesitated thinking it was a jake. It may have been just over 6 inch beard. He busted me lifting the gun. That’s been my one and only encounter all season besides another small Jake. Had a great season last year, this year I may not get one!

We have had pretty good gobbling this year. It slowed a bit on the limb the last 2-3ish weeks but it's been a good year for it all by me.
I am done for the year hunting as have something this weekend but I rate our season as very successful.
