Trees down in the canal...who cuts them?

Sorry if this isn't the exact board for this.
My place is on a canal off of the Tickfaw river. There are several trees down in the canal including one of mine...partially still on my land but the majority in the canal. Some of these are BIG trees and I have no clue where to even start to cut one safely. Passage is impossible...even by kayak.
Who is responsible for cutting them and removing them? Who would I call to ask?
How in the hell is it even done?

I would start by calling your local LDWF. They should be able to point you in the right direction.

If the trees are affecting drainage in the area, parish government may remove them.

If it's a private canal, you will have to do it yourself.
If it's a public canal, you will have to call your parish department of public works.

If it’s not parish drainage then you may get lucky and some contractor who’s on FEMAs nickle may clear it if they are clearing parish drainage.
If not then whoever wants to pass through will end up having to clear it.

From past experiences, you will end up removing the trees. Don’t hold your breath waiting on the state or parish.

Do you know anybody on your drainage board or police jury? I'd start with them... But like a lot of folks have said, you'll probably end up having to do it yourself or hire it out if its not essential to drainage.

I'll make some phone calls once the linemen are done and things are semi-normal.
There are no gates or anything on the canal and 10-12 other homes past me that can't get out by water. Hopefully there is an option besides me trying to figure out how to get that thing out of the water.

Im all for being a good guy and sorting things out on my own...
But I think I'd sit back and let someone else get fed up enough to tackle that project.
And from your comment, it seems like you could end up hurting yourself trying to do something not in your wheelhouse. Its not worth it.

The owner of the tree is responsible for removing it from the canal.

I have a very healthy respect for chainsaws...not afraid of them but I know what they can do. Only about 6 foot of the tree (and root ball) are actually on land while the top is hanging over/on a neighbors tree that fell from the other side of the canal (it fell first).

Both trees missed the boat lift by 1-2 feet.

You’re probably gonna end up having to have the tree that was in your yard and fell into canal removed by you or hiring someone to do it.
How big is the tree, can you do it yourself, do you have the physical ability or $$$$$ to hire it removed.
Maybe all the neighbors who live on the canal could get together and hire someone to remove them if you can’t get The parish or state to remove
If access to the canal isn’t a necessity right now then I’d let someone farther down the canal initiate the removal questions

When you get ready to hire someone, I'd give whoever builds bulkheads in your area a call.
They'll have a barge to work from, an excavator to lift the trees, and more than likely be used to cutting trees.
Hopefully, you have neighbors that are willing to reach for their wallets too.

Just cut enough to get your boat in and out. If someone wants to cut more let them do it.

Yours should be easy. Cut the top off in ten foot sections working your way towards the trunk and use a truck or tractor to pull the logs out. Stack and burn them for next Fourth of July.
Keep the chainsaw tied off to the boat or attach a crab trap float to it.

Sorry, cutting that is going to suck arse. Take it from a dude who has been cutting trees at the camp for two days. Get the nabors to chip in and pay.

This, really a pretty easy job OP, use a truck and chain to slowly get the sections that are over the water out.
A crew with a bobcat can knock that out easily if they can stand on a boat to actually do the cutting.
