Nice, I saw a report earlier and it seemed similar to your post. Y'all been doing really good lately.

It’s been a lot of fun the past week. Warmer water temps and rising water always pushes fish up. But we also caught fish out in 30-50’ on a scope Shad as well. You can literally catch them in any depth right now.

So, any of you Toledo bend experts want to tell me what’s best way for me to upgrade fishing around my dock. Water when lake full is about 15-20 feet deep at the end. Sandy bottom in Indian Creek area. Plan is to make a brush pile with gum/willow within casting distance from the end, possibly make pvc trees coming up about 6-8 feet from bottom, fish feeder?? What would the outdoor board guys do?

quote:

"The 1st day I fished in Lowe's Creek right across from the boat ramp, and Slaughter Creek. I caught 'em really good early – the bait was up high and the fish were swimming good. Later it would get better...81 lbs on day 1.

> "Day 2 [he was so far ahead] I just went and practiced. I ran all over the lake. I tried to check water color. I'd roll into areas, side scan and down scan just looking for bait. When I'd finally get in an area with bait, I'd catch 'em and leave. ...waypoint that area, the next day run I'd run in there and the bait was not there. It went like that all week.

quote:

"The biggest key for that is making really good pitches. I spent all fall trying to get my mechanics right and getting all my transducers set up. When you made a pitch on a fish, it was critical to make that first pitch [on the money] because if not the fish will swim too close to the boat and that would mess him up and he wouldn't bite.

> "The fish are naturally are attracted to your boat because they're curious. They'll be swimming to your boat...if they broke that threshold of like 30' [away from the boat] they wouldn't bite. You had to make a really accurate cast and that's what separates a lot of the guys.

No big uns but, I went to Caddo Lake yesterday on short notice since the weather was so nice. Fished between 10 am and 2:15 pm.

Blanked the first two hours or so throwing a chatterbait, spinnerbait and wacky worm in Big Green Brake. 50% shaded with cypress and water temp was 56-58 degrees.

Moved to a South facing bank with no shade, a little sporadic hydrilla and found 60.4 degree water. Caught 5 ripping crawfish rattletraps in the grass.

I feel like I could take that info to Toledo, focus on the classic rattletrap/grass technique and catch them pretty good right now.

I checked my bookmarks and the thread that got me started on crappie fishing early at TB was started on Feb. 6 2014. Pretty sure it was the guy catching them accidentally on shad raps in Yokum, but there were several threads, and I may be confused.

I’m staying around mid lake. Is the 3229 area worth fishing or would further south be better?

I saw an 11.4, 8.13 and a 8.7 this afternoon. We’ve all caught 40+ bass last two days. Yesterday was better numbers wise, wind was brutal this afternoon after storms. But we caught thru the storms and afterwards. Crappie guys were catching this afternoon, watched them catch several idling to boat lanes.

Really personable guy, and can fry some fish. My longtime friend is leaving LTD, changing careers. Was tired of weekend warriors potlicking all his brush piles and live scoping them empty. He also told me he thinks it likely that tighter limits on bass and crappie are coming to the Bend because of the proliferation of new electronics and ever increasing pressure.

Interestingly, LTD hasn’t contacted me about my annual trip scheduled with him, apparently just reassigned us, and are waiting to spring the switch on us when we show up. We will be having words about that this week.
