Thoughts on Poulan Pro for chainsaw

I have 2 trees that I need to cut down and as luck would have it, my old chainsaw is broken beyond repair. My local Tractor Supply store has a Poulan Pro but I've never used anything from Poulan. Is this a good brand for chainsaws?

Had the 20” for 10yrs now. Easy to start every time. Plenty of power for the few times a year I use it. No complaints.

I know that Stihl is the best, but to be honest, I'm not going to pay for a Stihl considering that I'll maybe only use it once a year.

I have one but I only use it rarely. It does the job for a chainsaw you may not need often. If I regularly used one, I would probably get a Stihl.

I have a couple of Stihls, my dad picked up a Poulan Pro after Michael that we all used. It's fine for what you want.

If you're going to run a two-stroke that infrequently get you some Seafoam. It's a game changer.

They're fine for small work.

The main issue is that if you need it worked on, no one will do it or they'll tell you it would be cheaper to just buy a new one.

I agree on this point. I discovered Seafoam a few years back. It's amazing stuff.

I’ve been pleased using Trufuel in my 2 strokes

I have a Poulan Pro that I have been using for over 5 years. I keep hoping it quits so I have an excuse to use my Echo CS 590 Timberwolves.

It keeps doing what I throw at it. It's the only 2 stroke I own that uses 40:1 so I have only used Trufuel in it.

Don't hesitate to pick one up for occasional use.

Well I came into this thread expecting totally different responses.

What's the price difference in comparable Poulan, Stihl and Echo?

Depends on what size saw you’re looking for. You can get into a stihl for around two hundred, maybe a little less for an echo from Home Depot. But don’t buy from the big box, go with local dealer.
Poulan today are not what they were forty or so years ago. I never see anyone using one.

If the price is right I’d get it if you only need one now and then. I’ve had one now for 4 years and no complaints.

I bought the poulan pro at Lowes, and had a terrible time getting it started everytime after the first time I used it, and finally bought a Husqvarna.

Get a Husq or Stihl.

This... I had 2 Poulan pros. They are fine if you don't use them. There's a big problem with the motor and it costs more to fix than the saw is worth. Bought a Stihl and never looked back. Got it on sale too

Same. I'm going on 7 years for a ryobi weed eater. Cranks quickly.

All I buy anymore.

Break them in fairly easy.

Don't leave fuel in them.

If I do blow it up within 3 years, call and they will usually allow you to return it to a dealer for a brand new one. I've blown up two in 13 years sawing a tree where the diameter was twice the length of the bar.
