shite it won't be long before manual transmissions just go by the wayside.
I had to be able to drive a manual before my old man would let me drive anything else, kids in 10 years won't even know what a manual transmission is.

In 3 years you will not be able to get a truck of any flavor with a manual.
With as much as the EPA cares about the environment, you'd think we'd be seeing them gaining popularity rather than loosing it.
Americans are too lazy to drive

You can't beat a manual when hauling. That's a fact,

You are so right about that. My first and only truck my dad got me was a standard. Took me to the dealership, picked one out and he drove it off the lot. Pulled into empty parking lot and said your turn. If you want it got to learn to drive it. Good thing salesman didn't go
But I have never forgotten how to drive one to this day and that was 20 yrs ago.

The ONLY time an auto excels is when you're eating hamburgers or stuck in traffic.
Otherwise, a manual wins. Period.
Everybody wants fuel mileage but nobody wants 3 pedals. I don't understand the logic.

About the same.

FTR I wholeheartedly agree with the last 20 or so posts. I wish automatics were never thought up, but I guess it's like everything else; things ain't like they were in the good ol' days. I learned to drive on my Paw-Paw's Custom Deluxe w/ 3 on the tree. My first car was a Toyota paseo with a stick. I miss that little car.

They have their place, but I don't want one in my vehicles.

I've had my share of manuals and as much as I love actually controlling a vehicle vs just guiding one, ill never own another daily driver standard

**obligatory I like dodge post**
Fwiw, trans issues were mainly electrical based. Can't comment on the diesels but that was the case with the gassers. The 545rfe had a "passing gear" that used, iirc, two overdrive gears...often resulted in some fried clutch packs after too much use (talking multiple thousands of miles). Though normally if you didn't mess with the truck performance wise; the trans would hold up. Mostly guys making decent power were frying them on the forums I post on. I think the auto in the HD trucks is different than the 545rfe though, hold up to the torque much better. They are also phasing out the 545rfe in favor of the 8 speed in the 1500s...it's a zf 8 speed, same one used in bimmers and other high end makes.

I love my 6.7 cummins. It's a strong motor that I haven't had any problems with since I deleted the emission's BS. The one thing I can say is that the 2006 dodge had legit A/C problems and 07/08 had DPF clogging/emission problems. Now the 07.5/08 still was better than anything else out at that point.

They are about to come out with a 1500 light duty Ram with a Turbo 4 Diesel. The motor is a European motor that is made for or by Fiat. It has been used over there for a long time. It is supposed to have a lot of torque and around 250 hp. They are supposed to get around 30 mpg highway. The interesting thing is that they do not intend to charge a huge markup for this motor. They want to sell themas equal to their gas motors to encourage Americans to consider them.
Rams are really nice trucks in recent years. Once they merged with Fiat, they really improved quality.

Yup. But one consistent thing I love about a Chevy is the amount of abuse they will take. I've put many Chevy's through pure hell and never had to have major work on an engine or transmission, or front end or 4wd.
Overall, the drivetrain on them is just good quality imo.

My 2007 Dodge cooked a rear end at 40,000 miles. I think that one was about 4 grand. Then around 75,000 is started to shift real shitty. It also rattled like a soda can full of quarters from the day i bought it.
Traded for a 2012 F-350 lariat, haven't looked back
