I occasionally catch and release Collared Lizards here when I can actually get one cornered in a hole. They habitate the same types of natural hides as pygmy rattlesnakes, which are thick here, so I exercise extreme caution. People here call them "mountain boomers" and swear that they're "poisonous"
.
I did see some pretty cool and interesting lizards during visits to see my mom in Arizona, including stumbling across a wild Gila Monster. That was awesome. You get kinda bored of seeing the native critters in your local vicinity, so it's always good to occasionally see somewhere new, and the wildlife there.

Not a herp, but...
Some sort of damselfly.
A nice Gulf Coast Box Turtle.
A little River Cooter, that was shaped like a Pringles chip.
Following the trail to a...
Female Red-eared Slider, with some war wounds, that may have been nesting earlier in the day. Didn't feel any eggs when I palped her.

My daughter saw these and started screaming for me to get upstairs to see them. They’re skinks (I think) and they’re the biggest I’ve ever seen. They were in the neighbors flower bed. We were in her room looking down on them. They look to be around 8-10” long.

Yep. Broadhead Skinks, Plestiodon laticeps. The one with the big red head is the male.
Here's a close up shot I took last month.

Pretty ribbon snake in the garden this morning
And this was 15’ away:
Think it belonged to the same snake?

Nice!
If that's eggs, then no. Ribbon snakes give birth to live young.

Yikes. But is it snake eggs? If so any guesses to what kind?

They could be anything, really. It's hard to tell even how big they are in the photo (or if it's even eggs). But, the only venomous snake in north america that lays eggs is the coral snake. Coral snake eggs would be pretty small, and it would be a miracle to find any, in most areas.

Just missed a nice sized Speckled King today. First one I’ve seen by my house in the 16 years I’ve lived here (aside from one dead one on the road). He was moving so fast I didn’t realize it was a king, and I was carrying my dog in the high grass. Just missed his tail on the grab
A couple weeks ago I found the king snake dead on the service road right by the spot I saw him that day.

Dang baw no need for tears. I mean I won’t kill them but I don’t go out of my way checking up on them. I see them a pretty good bit at my deer lease, give me your address and I’ll mail one to you next time I catch one. I’ll address it to your wife!!

A couple weeks ago I found the king snake dead on the service road right by the spot I saw him that day. Really pissed me off. I’ve scoured the woods here for years and it’s pretty barren, which is surprising since it’s right on the Honey Island Swamp...just the occasional garter snake or black racer. As I said, in 16 years I’ve only come across 1 dead king snake here, and this was the first live one I’ve seen in the area. I went back several times looking for him after I missed him that day (wanted to relocate him away from the interstate and service road) but no luck. Then one day we’re driving down the road and I saw a dead snake on the road right by that spot - instantly told my wife and kid, “That better not be my f@*#ing king snake!” Stopped to check, and sure enough someone got him
That sucks. I've had similar luck with red milks, and, believe it or not, corn snakes.
We have mainly eastern milks in AL, but there's a few of the red subspecies in the northwestern corner of the state. I'm always looking for them over there, but the only one I've found was recently flattened in the road.
And, same thing with corns. They're just not as common in my area as a lot of places. I was about 20 seconds too late to finally find a live corn. I watched the a-hole in front if me back up to deliberately run over it.

No thanks, my wife is happy with the 4 pythons and 1 boa in my formal dining room.
And she’s ecstatic with the anaconda in my pants.

Jungle Jaguar Carpet Python
She really is a looker - thanks.
I think the Jaguar morph first appeared in Coastals, then was bred with the Jungles for the bright yellows.

Anyone know what this lizard is? My son caught it this weekend at Pickwick (NE MS)

Looks like a eastern fence lizard. Not sure which subspecies it would be, though.

Eastern Fence Lizard (Sceloporus undulatus). Looks like a little blue peeking out on his throat which makes it a male.
Cute little guys that have a nack for staying on the far side of the tree from you!

I don't think I've added these. A few photos from last week. I'm making a little overnight trip this coming weekend. Maybe I can find something interesting to share.
Dekay's brown snake (Storeria dekayi)
Timber rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus)
A rough looking black racer that was in shed (Coluber constrictor)
