My wife's friend called today to get me to come wrangle this little lady. She's gravid. I'm thinking seriously about keeping her long enough to get a baby before I relocate her.

Do it!

I kept my pygmy for a while and he was so fun to watch, especially at feeding time. And I set up a latch system on each corner of the tank so I never had to worry about it escaping or anything.

I always wanted to keep some venomous snakes but never had the opportunity.

I say do it and post progress in this thread....unless you or someone you know gets hit...then I say it was a bad idea all along

I love timber rattlesnakes and have wanted to keep one for a while. My wife has never been on board with that idea. But, I currently have this big female in a tub in my reptile room and my wife isn't freaking out about it. I've mentioned that I might keep a baby. So far she hasn't kicked me out of the house, so I think it's a go.

But yeah, if I do keep one, I'll build a very secure, locking enclosure, and I'll put a deadbolt on my reptile room to be sure no unauthorized kids can get in or anything.

Was in Magnolia Texas over the weekend. Friend of mine was there too. She breeds exotic Hognose snakes. There is a specialty reptile shop there. We went in on Saturday to check it out. Man, they had some damn crazy critters in there. Every rattlesnake you can imagine, and albino Eastern as well.
2 black Mambas,3 King Cobras,2 Gibbon Vipers. And about 100 more venomous snakes.

Some things belong in zoos away from their native lands.
These are perfect examples.

Found three timbers yesterday. One didn't want to be photographed.

Teague, how long is that timber rattlesnake? How old would you reckon her to be? I count 12 rattles plus the button.

I think she's close to 4 feet. I'm not an expert at aging them. But, her rattle is tapered which suggests she's not super old. I'd guess probably between 6-10 years old but I could be off a couple years.

There’s always a bunch of gulf coast toads hanging around by my house. I usually do a good job of looking out for them when I’m weed eating. This fella was a little more camouflaged and almost got hit with the weed whacker. He damn near jumped on my shoulder. Leopard frogs always impress me with how high they can jump.

I've been watching a timber rattlesnake gestation site all month. It finally paid off today. Babies are here.

That's badass. I found one about 10" long in the woods once in college. Found a yoohoo bottle in my truck to put it in, kept it for a week or so trying to figure out what I was going to do with it. Ended up taking it back to where I found it and letting it go.

Finally ran across my first brown anole on my back porch in Slidell. I had heard that they were becoming invasive, but last night was the first time I saw one. He was back in the same spot tonight hanging out on my bbq pit.

There may literally be 500 in my yard in Metairie. From babies to some that look like small iguanas.
