I'll definitely look in to it seeing as it looks like i'm about to drop $500 on reel, rod, line. There goes a new release and QAD rest I planned on buying for my bow. Good thing is I already have a boat to use in SELA and a SUP in Destin...

For brim and blue gill lake runners etc I am a huge fan of good ole pecs poppers. In the spring I often tie a wet fly behind it I think yall call it a brim killer?? I dont know much about wet flies and find any ole one will work. This is best when they are nesting and starting now ya can absolutely slay em. They will turn on in the lake verrette area and ya can catch them till ya wrist gives out.

This sounds silly and old school but I learned to work a popper for em by dropping crickets and grass hoppers off a dock and watching them swim back to the bank. Most did not make it and I learned to imitate that action. pop pop pause pop pause pop pop pop long pause varied and broken up. Working the poppers slow seems to work best.

I tie most everything I use for bream.

I tie a small olive and white clouser with bead chain eyes on about an 8 hook. Wears bream out and will take a SMB as well.

Also like to use very bright, heavily weighted wooly worms. same size as the clousers.

You can tie some pretty big wooly boogers for bass, but I love using deer hair poppers if I can.

20 or more years ago I came across a bait stand going out of business I bought every poppin bug he had and several cards of wet flies. Thank God I have a life time supply of baits they dont make no more got a big card board box full of stuff for $50 I felt guilty and gave the guy an extra 20 and he bout cried. I told him I'd use them all and think of him when I did I hope I live long enough to do it.

Saltwater guys, Im looking for an 8wt rig that will be used on the coast 2-3 times per year and then used for freshwater bass and carp.

Im headed to Gulf Shores in August and would like to have this rig incase I hook into a decent red or something. I used my 5wt for the ladyfish last year and it handled them well, but I am planning on going to Fort Morgan, Little Lagoon and Johnson Beach this year and would like to be prepared. I also plan to make it to south La one day with you baws to go after some reds.

Will the Allen ATS/Prelude combo @ $150 take care of these needs? I cant find many reviews on it, but what Im seeing looks very decent.

I actually just referred a buddy to that combo and I cast it for a few minutes last week and I think it’s a great value for the price

Finally got a chance to tie some flies and a couple hours to go chase white bass. Pulled into the parking area and realized the rod/reel I planned to use was still at the house. Some digging around in the truck produced a 6wt I hadn't used in ages and a 200gr sink tip line. Good enough, game on.

Yeah it should do fine. The BTT I use is a WFF line (weight forward floating)

Looks like a great set up for the $.

You have the right idea on the line. Don’t skimp on your fly line, a great fly line can make a less expensive rod very effective.

As mentioned, Wulff Bermuda Triangle WFF is a good choice. I’m also a fan of the Orvis Ignitor.
You can also find Scientific Anglers grand slam mastery series on sale at a good price from time to time.

Don’t be afraid of buying used either. You can find a TFO Pro series or mangrove online for cheap. Pair one of those up with a Landon Guru and you have a solid 8 wt at a great price.

Solid write-up. I can't wait to move back to SELA in June. I've been missing my sight fishing

Boy that little white bass looks like it was a handful on the fly rod. Well done.

I've finally got my boat ready for the water after being out of comission for 6 months. I'm itching to get back to the carolina redfish again.

Looking for what purpose, you need a fishing rod) If this is just for starters to learn how to catch properly, then choose those fishing rods that you will easily hold in your hand. An excellent solution is the CFRP model, although they are expensive. Cheaper, but fewer quality products are made of fiberglass. When choosing a fishing rod, consider its flexibility. Pay attention to the length of the gear. Here's a video of how to choose the right fishing rod for a newcomer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrAAvfl4vTE
Just pay attention to the choice of tools for the fishing rod, read the article about the reels https://bestoutdooritems.com/best-fly-reel-under-200/
Good luck))))
