Nice! Glad to see you getting some use out of the new setup. That reel is sick.

Last Sunday I saw probably the biggest fish I had seen in the last couple trips. Not a bull but a bigger fish nonetheless. Was all jacked up and ready to make a perfect cast until i ran out of line on the deck like a amataeur and my cast fell short by a few feet and I never saw the fish again

Thanks man, yeah I like it so far but I haven’t even gotten into the drag much, so the jury is still out on it. I’m getting on these fish in a prettty clumsy way with the mud boat and no pole or trolling motor, so I’m definitely learning the hard way.

Pogey, do you need a trolling motor? I'm about to swap mine out today/tomorrow. The one on my boat is an older motorguide 24v 80# thrust. It's not the best one ever, but it has a lot of power and 100% works.

I fished solo both weekends so these pics are all selfies.

I know the feeling. I've been trying to make a Fly fishing video, but i can never get a good crew together on the good days. Geauxlpost Just comes on the shitty days and gets drunk.....

Here a solo trip I made 2 weeks ago.

I don’t think so man, but I appreciate the offer. I think it’s just the wiring harness or the plug that isn’t working. Trolling motor is only 5yrs old

I think I still have your email from a ways back. We chatted about what I think was your first DIY Bahamas trip

Thanks

Im sure its in here somewhere, how do i start with fishing for reds/bass/trout. I fish in Delacroix once a week or so and have many spots that are usually stacked with redfish and bass. Which gear should I start with for fly fishing?

***** Are you in the south and maybe looking for a good inshore saltwater or freshwater bass set up?? Check out page 11 -16 and 28-35 read from there on some great info on what you might need, rod weight, reel size, brands, etc.****

From the OP come back for more if that doesn't help you

I've said it before but whatever. Thanks for posting these pics b/c this is why I made the thread. You went from (if I remember correctly) completely new fly fisherman to posting up awesome pics of reds and you have a hobby that will last you the rest of your life If there's a better addiction than this sport I haven't heard of it

I posted this in another thread but figured I post here too. Here's a few from the last couple trips.

Thinking about trying to catch some reds Sunday. I’ve never tried to sight fish in and after sub 30 degree weather. Will they still be shallow?

I think the magic water temp number is 55 degrees. If it’s about that then they should be moving around some. When it gets below 55 they bury themselves in the mud and are impossible to see. The water should be low low this weekend so I would focus on the outer edges of the marsh and try and get some bulls

10-4. I’m sure it’s below that by now. Guess I’ll target trout till the spring.

If it warms back up above 55 during the day they will start moving around. You will notice some leeches on reds in deep winter from when they bury in the mud. I haven’t seen that yet but I’m sure I’ll start seeing it after this cold front we are going through.
That being said I’m fishing trout tomorrow and sunday for the first time in probably 2 years if that tells you anything.
