Use a tube. You can buy one or make one out of PVC. It checks all the boxes, easy to carry on, fits in an overhead, and cheap. The soft cases suck for travel. Carry two tubes if you can. One travel tube and one stock tube. The stock tube will come in handy if you need to do some bushwhacking or exploring.

I have the fishpond carry on bag. I love it, but I also fly with fly rods at least twice a year. I used to use a tube, but the fishpond case has room for like 5 rods, reels, wading shoes (chuck Taylors), and a small fly box.

Nice ones. I got out Friday evening but only managed a few bream. Had a popper dropper rigged up and that bream killer was the ticket.

How do you like that Piscifun? Reviews look great for the money. Most seem to prefer Piscifun over Maxcatch.

As far a fresh water goes, i could be using string wrapped around coke can. the reel works fine, but it really never sees much use. (although I've tried it out on some sheephead and reds just for kicks and it worked fine.)

My refish reels are Maxcatch ( balling on a budget) and I haven't had any issues. Very smooth drag. Not sure if the drag is sealed, but I don't plan on getting in the water.

Its just the base model Liquid but it has a reel and 3 spools.

If I get outbid, I will probably just get the same reel for $109 retail (minus the extra spools). I figure even though its a base model, it has a sealed drag and they have a killer warranty.

Interested in getting a good mid priced rod outfit. I'm looking at G Loomis, Sage, and Hardy.

Also, has anyone used Allen fly rods/reels?

Allen rods are middle of the road, Allen reels however are top notch and I can’t recommend them enough.

My favorite rigs are an Allen kraken reel paired with a sage VXP rod and an Allen kraken paired with a st croix rod. Highly, highly recommend Allen kraken reel.

Yes to both, but never owned a rod. I currently own one Allen Omega and sold another. They're great reels. Very smooth, startup inertia is nonexistent, and they're durable. I did have a drag go bad on the reel I still have, and for that reason and that reason alone it's a travel backup, but Allen sent me a new drag assembly no questions asked. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any Allen reel. Good company.

eat: I used that reel as a jack reel for awhile on a 10wt before the drag went out, and jacks are brutal on drags. I've seen them burn up two other brand reels, and heard of them burning up much more than that. So take that with a grain of salt. Dealing with Allen to replace it was painless. After it was replaced, I've fought jacks and bonefish (and redfish, but not really drag abusers) on it with no issues.

Got my Echo 8wt rod in and I have this Rio General Purpose Saltwater line coming in this week (got it new for $25 on Ebay.)

Im watching Ebay and forums for a deal on a 8wt reel, if I dont find one in a few weeks Ill probably go with the Lamson Liquid.

Headed to Sandestin May 16-19, wife has work/CE conferences every day so I can fish allll fricking day in peace.

I screwed up and got the "Coldwater Series" General Purpose Saltwater line.

Is this something I need to get rid of in favor of a warm/hot water line or can I get away with it?

It was an ebay purchase with no returns....

Any tips on getting lockjaw reds to bite a fly? Saturday in Point au Chene I threw at over 15 reds that were not spooked, and had the perfect set up on, and they just wouldn't bite. I used every fly in the box, but nothing worked.
