I was incredibly lucky to draw the TPWD Guided Bighorn Hunt this year.

The ram was 10 years old and grossed 170 1/8”

Man what a beautiful animal. That thing needs a FULL mount. I admire anyone willing to hunt any kind of sheep....gotta be some kind of athlete just to drive a truck within a couple of miles of most of them LOL.

Elephant Mountain WMA, south of Alpine. The hunt was guided by the TPWD biologist on that WMA. Of the three WMAs in Texas with sheep, this one is BY FAR the most accessible and has the most rams. In all we put eyes on 24 rams (plus another 7 that the guides saw in their spotting scopes that I never saw) that morning. Just incredible seeing them on the mountain.

congratulations....amazing pics

question: are the draw hunts only for residents, or are non residents allowed to enter as well?

When do they typically open for new application...August?

How did Alpine Texas get named Alpine LOL??? There is nothing about the area Alpine in nature....far less Alpine in Alpine Texas than there is Iran in Iraan Texas LOL.

I did a lot of scouting for other people hunting Barbary Sheep in SE New Mexico. I would ride oil field roads looking for quail and water holes to shoot dove around and would glass the cliffs for sheep and let them know where I had seen some....I wouldn't have gotten within 1000 yards of most of the places I saw them but folks who wanted one would go places only a sheep and a sheep hunter could go.....I have watched the things drop a couple of hundred feet and thought they had surely screwed up and were about to meet their maker when lo and behold they'd land on a crack about the size of a finger and start nibbling on grass! Amazing animals...I admire anyone who has ever gotten a shot at one let alone a kill shot where it was possible to pack the thing out without a helicopter. Definitely not a hunt for the average hunter.

Damn impressive! and Lucky as hell

1/4910 from what it looks like, though I think that's better draw odds than any other state that has sheep tags

They are open to non-residents as well. I met some guys on a javelina hunt that drive down from Nebraska for it. I don't know if you have to buy a license just to apply or how that works though since I have a resident lifetime license.

I want to say July, but it may be August

They have bonus points too, so the actual number of entries in the lottery is much higher than that. I had 9 points, and I know a lot of guys with 10+ that apply every year.
