Damn impressive! and Lucky as hell

1/4910 from what it looks like, though I think that's better draw odds than any other state that has sheep tags

is applying in every state(and mayby a couple attending sheep foundation raffles) still the method of choice for the opportunity to hold those heavy horns?

while i'm a resident of texas.. iirc, the odds of drawing a guided hunt like that is pretty poor.

you should be putting in for the two Texas hunts for sure, the guided hunt and the Big Time Texas grand slam hunt.

it's long odds, but > 0.

it's just extra entries in the lottery instead of a true preference point. You accrue a point each year you don't draw and then zero out when you do. I have 10+ for mule deer and pronghorn, but know guys with 20+ in those so it really is just winning a lottery.

That's awesome. I put in for the antelope and oryx hunts for the last couple years, plus a few exotics. Doubt I ever draw but worth the $50 or so I spend.

pretty much, or paying to go in Canada, or buying a governor's tag.

Sheep odds are like winning the powerball regardless.

MT does have an OTC sheep hunt with a quota, but it's incredibly difficult. Like the most hardcore back country hunters in the world don't want anything to do with it. Put it this way. Sheep odds of drawing are <1% anywhere in lower 48. There is a hunting world that only hunts sheep. MT offers a true OTC sheep tag every year. Anyone can go to walmart and buy one and go hunt in a couple units. The quote I think is 2 rams. Once 2 rams are killed the sheep hunt is over and no more hunting for the season. So all the other tags are invalid. They haven't hit the 2 ram quota in a long time. So all these guys go out there every year and never kill a ram.

Rinella has an awesome podcast talking sheep, lotteries, otc, governor's tags etc.

Also one with a guy who killed a Ram OTC in MT. I think he's the first guy to actually kill one in like 15 yrs. He spent like 60 days in the backcountry without even seeing a sheep let alone a Ram before he got lucky.

Congrats, LoneStar. Trophy of many lifetimes. Nothing like grabbing those horns.
