A 45 cowboy load kicks about like a 38spl at the most. A 45 hot load kicks about like a 44 mag. There is a very wide range, as far as pressure is concerned, with 45 lc loads. Buffalo bore sells a load that slings a 325gr bullet at 1300and some change.

i only read the first few post bc i feel that ive made my stance on the judge pretty clear, fun range toy thats it. however, i do feel it is necessary to mention that for everyone on here that bought the gun for their girlfriend or boyfriend that plays the catcher role, the argument seems to be you want these people you care about that have zero experience with guns to have this one because it is a small shotgun and they have the advantage of shooting a pattern vs a single bullet.
first, i feel that the most common mistake when picking a bedside gun for females is that people automatically think they need to get them a small gun. it is the exact opposite. if the gun is not for concealed purposes it makes more since to get the largest gun the person can weild. a bigger gun is often more comfortable to shoot due to the reduced recoil and fullsized grips (many can change grips for fullsize female hands). So if you want your girl to have the benifit of shooting a shotgun you should get her a home defense shotgun (18" barrel or longer) in 20 or 12 gauge.
secondly, you say you want your girl to have the benefit of a pattern vs a single bullet, and im assuming because your girl has zero shooting experience. if someone is going to own a gun they plan to use in the event of a home invasion they better be fricking good with it. you think the military hands out judges and then just ships everyone out to war. no they go through extensive training. so, if you are going to own a gun for protective purposes you better be trained well using it. if you become very proficient with a gun you no longer need the advantage (albeit it a small one out of a judge) of shooting a spread vs a single bullet. if you don't need a gimmick of a handgun you can get a real one. if you get a real handgun vs a gimmick you can better defend yourself. if you can better defend yourself you have a higher chance of surviving if it ever comes down to it. etc...

That's a good point in most caliber discussions, but not when you're talking about trying to stop a home invader with a shotgun gauge designed to not intimidate 6 year old dove hunters.
No way anyone should choose a .410 to defend their home when there are so many legitimate man-stopping options available.

Nice argument. I am now convinced that a .410 is a good choice for home defense.

Would it make you happy if I removed the picture?

Have you even bothered to watch the 3" buckshot vids? Either way, you come off looking pretty bad here.
No, but I have read plenty on the Box O' Truth website where he did penetration tests with with buckshot, birdshot and slugs.
They all failed the 12" standard. I have read plenty on this gun because I was considering buying one. After facing the cold hard facts that .410 shotshell SUCK for self defense, I went with the trusted and true .45 ACP.
If I did have a Judge, I would load it with .45 LC and forget about the buckshot.

What's that? If I have a gun that only shoots to 11inches in this test... do I need to buy a new one? What if it goes to 13 inches? Is that too much?

So Taurus, Federal AND Winchester disagree?

Is this free?

Just google the site Box O Truth and read up on it. Good stuff there. The fellow does lots of testing and he specifically tested the Judge pistol.
12" or more of penetration is optimal. that doesn't mean that a .22 or .25 or whatever won't kill someone. It does mean that they are not the optimal loads to use for self defense. Same as .410 shotshells.
My fist gun was a .410 single barrel. I have probably slung more lead out of that gun than any other I own. I know what a .410 will do with birdshot, buckshot and slugs.
Believe me, when I was younger I shot rabbits with slugs and buckshot and it's not near the carnage you would imagine. Now shooting a small bird with a slug...yeah, POOF is the word I would use. LOL
But like I said, at first, I was considering the Judge, like many others, because I thought the shotgun shells would give my wife a better chance at hitting her target if she needed to use the weapon. But after looking at ballistics results, and seeing how poorly the shotshells performed, I decided against that gun.

Marketing. Pure and simple. These guys are making a buck off of the new market that the Judge has opened up for them. Does this label on the box mean they are optimal self defense loads? Hardly.

I don't have a dog in this hunt due to the fact that I made a deal to not own Taurus.
But if you believe all commercials then we should do buisiness.

We're still there. Funny that people (not you, necessarily) who think they need 3.5" 12 gauge to knock down geese want to use a .410 to keep their home from being marauded.
