honestly, i don't think the Judge is a good snake gun.. i've had hers on the tractor several times with 7 1/2's in it, shot a bunch of snakes and the pattern is not good and tight, not what you would expect. On the other hand, nmber 4's shoot nice and tight...
Might be a different shot cup in the shells.
Usually, a full shot cup creates a really tight pattern in a smooth bore, and like a stumpy short wad or a cork wad will let the shot start spreading a lot sooner. But in a rifled barrel, the shotcup spins and creates a donut effect. That's my guess anyway.

I have been very (too) out spoken against them so I'm trying to find one to go shoot this weekend. I think I know a guy that has one. I want to get a better idea of accuracy, weight and balance
I was kind of on the fence in the begining but seeing as the wife can put the first 4 rapid fire shots out of the .40 in the 10 ring I see no reason to consider a "better" gun.
I would, as I stated before, like to see what a Judge would do to a 60-100 lb hog at close to medium range (3-7yrds) with bird and buck shot.

Hey, Taurus even has a new one coming this year...the Raging Judge.
Shoots .454 Casull, .45 Colt and of course...
3" .410 shotshells.
Put some .454 in that bad boy and ya got something.

I could be wrong, but if I were you, I would load the wheel with 1 birdshot, 1 buckshot then the rest .45Colt so that when the .410 didn't kill the hog you will have something to fall back on.

I think to sum this up we have come to......
If you're killing snakes
If you're killing bad guys , unless you're shooting buckshot or slugs, in which case , but maybe. If you're shooting bad guys with the long colt, .
So to the guys buying this for their old ladys, you can hope the guy is just looking for easy loot and not hopped up on meth looking for some hard fought pussy because you're whole premise is the "spread" will enable her to hit something and basically scare them off. OR you can load her some LC's in there and let her untrained arse shoot the equivalent of a .44 mag. That's after you actually find some LC ammo that is loaded to those kinds of pressures (if they exist in production ammo).
OR
You could just go buy her a .357. That way she can shoot .38, .38 +p, .357, or even 38 shot shells (just in case a snake crawls in her window). By the way, ALL of those loads can be found at almost any Academy.
11 pages...
Good post. It wont make any difference though.

Shoots .454 Casull

Kinda messed up they plastered a pic of him up there like that. I'd be pretty unhappy about that.
Agreed.
Sounds like the guy made a hell of a follow up shot.

Can't disagree with you there...

Biggest problem with that was that he missed on the first shot.

I posted some data from an NRA study earlier in this thread. Average number of shots fired in an encounter of this nature is "2". So he's right in the bell curve.

This is exactly the reason I have a shotgun ready. I will not miss.

Nobody suggested you should. I'm just bringing facts to the discussion. Two shots of whatever he shot out of that gimmik gun, appear to have gotten the job done with impunity. I have no doubt that he had spent some time at the range with it.
I'm also pretty certain, based on the results of the aforementioned study, that two shots out of most any other gun, would have provided the same potential for solving the problem.
The shooter's aim is what mattered most. As it always does.
And to the other poster... just remember... you really DO have to aim that shotgun. I am sure you know that, but you'd be surprised how many don't.

a Taurus Judge- so named because judges carry this type of weapon in their courtrooms for self- defense.
