Surprised how difficult it is to find a tube fed 22LR bolt rifle.

I have this preference for tube fed for my walking around in the woods plinking/squirrel/rabbit rifle. I like the large capacity in the tube, it's easy to load, and doesn't have a magazine that digs into your back. I don't have to look for a magazine I just grab a box or two of shells stick them in my pocket and head into the woods. I have 3 tube feeders right now.

Remington Model 190 semi auto
Winchester Model 61 Pump
Henry lever action 22

The Winchester and the Henry are two of my favorite guns but neither would be "right" with a scope on them. If I'm shooting at game I would rather use a scope then to trust my shot with iron sights. I bet I've shot 10k rounds through the Remington. I've had to replace a few worn out parts but it's still going strong.

I decided I wanted a new woods gun so I started looking around town for a tube fed bolt action 22 rifle. 3 Big box stores, 5 pawn shops and 2 local gun stores later and not a single tube fed bolt action anywhere to be seen. I did not think that rifle configuration would be that hard to find. Did some googling and the only manufacture making a rifle in such a configuration right now is Marlin. I really don't want to give any more money to the Freedom Group. It's either that or shop around for used rifles. I much prefer buying new but I'm not left with many options. Anyone know and make/models of older 22LR tube fed rifles I should be looking at?

Buy a used one and make seller sign a K agreeing not to replace it with a Freedom Group gun.

I have a Marlin Model 70 in .22 LR, It was for my dad so it isn't going anywhere. I love to shoot it, has a sweet .22 scope on it and does real well.

Marlin makes one. It's basically a Model 60, just bolt action and not semi-auto.

I found a H&K tube feed .22LR Bolt Action at Star Pawn and gun back in like 1995 1996. I bought it because that was the only one I had ever seen by H&K. Has the detachable scope. Probably still one of my top 10 favorites in my collection. Carry it in the truck all year

Looks like Marlin is the only game in town for a new tube fed bolt action rifle. Trying to decide if I want to go with the Freedom group or go magazine fed instead. Savage Mark II FV's are looking enticing. I have a Marlin XT17 and it shoots great. One of the magazine's the section that catches the magazine release was machined 1/4" off so it doesn't seat high enough for a round to chamber. Just another example of freedom group quality control I would like to avoid if possible.

you will love everything about this gun except for that damn magazine catch. It sucks and I hate it but love everything else about the gun.

I would recommend the Ruger just because of that damn catch.

The Marlin was the only one that came to mind. I might add, that - also directly contrary to what you said in the OP - I'll offer this:

There isn't a better .22 semi than the ubiquitous 10/22. I find with the 10-round, flush fit magazine, that accomplishes a good bit of what you want right there. It's not 15 or 17 or whatever the tubes hold. But, there are a kagillion options for scoping it, slinging it, accessorizing it.

So, if it were me (and I know it's not), I would consider carrying a 10/22 with 10-round mags in it - and maybe switch to the 25-rounds if you get stationary or have a lot of targets. Not perfect, but better than searching for guns that don't exist/aren't available.

(ETA: And I'm considering a Savage Mark II or RAR in .22LR for a bolt option right now.)

The browning breakdown 22LR is the baddest arse tube fed 22 ever.

I also have a few speed masters. Not sure if I would part with one, but might consider

That was the main reason I went with my Marlin XT17 over the Savage 93R17 last year.

One thing I like about tube fed 22s in a manual action is you can use CB's or shorts or subsonic 22 quiets and you don't have to worry about the action cycling correctly.

I have this, the Henry Golden Boy .17HMR with the scope and I love it. Like a .22 on steroids and I busted a coyote behind my barn last week.

This picture is the 22 magnum.

They can be "right" with a scope.

These things are damned near indestructible, we used ours for coon hunting back in the 70's and put them through hell.

Mine is still on the gun rack and looks brand new in 2017, 40 years later.

The browning SA-22 is the 1911 of rimfire. Was designed by Browning himself in 1914.

It's the original takedown 22 and the best shooting .22 made. Period.

That's actually a Winchester Model 190. I have one just like it and it's one of the best shooting guns I've ever owned. I forgot how many rounds it holds but it will empty the magazine in a hurry.
