I have no experience with a larger caliber. We only have one for .22. I am assuming that most of the larger loads are going to be faster as well therefore you will hear the crack.

One guy I hunt with has a supressed .17 HMR, not silent, but quiet enough to nail more than one rabbit at a time.

I have a browning buckmark rifle that I got threaded a few years back from Acadiana Gun Works in Scott. I believe it was $75 to thread my barrel.

The loudest part of my shot with suppressor on it is the action slamming back. Bolt action is quieter but I love shooting my buckmark.

My suppressor fits .17 and 22 but don't have a .17 yet. I believe Savage has one with a threaded barrel already that I plan on getting in future.

My suggestion for hogs would be .17 and of course can use same suppressor on 22

A subsonic 308 or subsonic 300 blackout.

Generally speaking, any caliber that goes supersonic (1125 fps) will have some sort of crack.

A subsonic round will be quiet, but of course you will lose a ton of range. If you arent shooting far, which Im guessing you arent because of the suppressed 22, then a subsonic 30 cal would be good.

308

300 blk

Notice the subsonics out of the short barrel are keyholing and the supers out of the 16" barrel are making nice round circles on paper.

.45 ACP is subsonic even in a carbine barrel, if you stick to 230 gr bullets. But you'll need wipes to keep it really quiet, since it requires such a large hole thru the baffles. l60 gr loads in 9mm have the same velocities as the .45.

I just posted those videos so the OP could get an idea of the sound.

Obviously, there is a ton of work reloading or not to make the system work properly.

And I just noticed your link goes to a different video.

I will say that my barrel (8.5” bison with 1:7 twist) does not key hole at 50yds.

Perfect circular holes using reloads.

I've thought about buying a new rifle but don't see the reason to if I already own one. $125 is cheaper than a new rifle

So you are about to spend the money on a suppressor, tax stamp, and thermal but you don't want to buy a new rifle to accommodate? Come on dude.

300 Whisper at 1038 fps

OP - have you researched the investment ? Not cheap, and is very addictive. You thread 1 barrel, you will want to suppress ALL your rifles.

$200 stamp per suppressor
from $25 to $300 for paperwork depending on who does it
$400 to $1000 for a suppressor
7-9 month wait

Yea, I've decided if I'm going to invest that amount of money into something may as well do it right. Probably going to end up going with a 300 blackout. I mean, who doesn't need another gun anyway?

Its dead quiet and he just recently put the hammer down on some pigs with it. He put it behind the shoulder.

Read up on kill shots for pigs. The heart is much lower and towards the front than a deer. Shoot hogs in the shoulder, if not the head (especially ear hole).

Don't shoot pigs like a deer

Hebert’s will do it, I think for around $125. Been wanting to do one of my .17s to knock the crack down a little. Not sure of their quality since I haven’t done so yet, but could prob find some reviews.

Buhler Ballistics in Baton Rouge is where you want to go for barrel threading.

My question is, does suppressing a rifle really help with hogs? In my experience, they run after one shot even if it's suppressed.

In my experience yes a suppressor does help. We would walk long roads in the woods. They would have hogs out on the road eating for as far as you can see. When we got close enough to a group we would take out a few. Yes, the pigs in that area ran off. However, the pigs that are 100+ yds down range are still munching away. If we didn’t have suppressors I have no doubt that the pigs further down would of run off.

If I get a suppressor for a .300 AAC what other calibers can I get it used for? Is 9mm possible? That would be 7.62 mm and 9mm? I know it’s better to be specific but I don’t see myself having 3-4 suppressors.

Generally anything with the same or smaller bore. However you do need to check the specs to ensure that you don’t overpressure the suppressor. Every suppressor is different.

No 9mm is greater than 7.62mm. If you get a 9mm suppressor is likely you can shoot it on a .300 blk out.
