not that i have time the time or money to try it, but what kind of time and money does it take?

Money....... you can get started for less than $1000 if you're frugal.
Time....... there's not enough time in the world to do it right.
But seriously, it is more or less a lifestyle. It's not something you can just pick up and do on the weekends. The birds need exercise, and the more you hunt them, the more successful they'll become. They also have to be weighed and fed every day. And if they aren't consistently put over game, problems can arise, including aggression.
But, I don't want to hijack the squirrel thread, although this is usually the only way I hunt squirrels now. Here's some threads I started on here about it in the past:

Ambush! We hunt a narrow corn field about 120 yards wide lined with oak trees on both sides. Walk down the center of the field in tennis shoes and whatever I feel is comfortable. When a tree shakes we rush it and slaughter ensues. Works even better when we have the truck and just ride in the bed till we see something.

Question for the OB. Do you slowly walk or do you sit at a tree and wait for the bushy tail? I am more of a stalker. I hate to sit and wait!
Slowly walk.

I was always just taught that if they squirrel made it back to it's nest, it won. That was their safe zone.
Same here.

A mixture honestly. Usually I slowly walk along and if I find an area that looks good to me (several very large and/or dead oaks) I'll stop and prop up and wait a solid 15 min or so.

Those are nice for late season. No need for them early season till once everything falls from the trees.

Also, I will be hunting with my double barrel .410. Grandfather gave it to me when I was 6 years old. Killed a many of creatures with that pipe. If that gun could talk, it could tell some great camp fire stories!

Depends.. if i'm scouting for deer while squirrel hunting i use my 22 and I stalk.
Sometimes I like to take my shotgun.
A few years ago my dad and I went hunting. I was easing down one side and my dad on the other side of a lake. My dad said he ran into a guy and they were talking. The guy said "those duck hunters are shooting the woods down across the lake". My dad said " No, that's my son squirrel hunting". I limited out in about 25 minutes. Had to shoot a couple more than once because they were in the top of the cypress trees.

I use my kids.
I get on one side of the tree and hunker down still, quiet, and maybe camouflaged with my .22 or .410 pointed up and ready.
I send a kid(s) to walk under the tree and to the other side of the tree from where I am.
The squirrel hugs a limb staying opposite of where the kids are...exposing himself to me.
Blam!
Bye-bye squirrel. Works like a charm. (we have year-round open season with no bag limit...considered a pest in Fort Bend county, TX)
Though sometimes a squirrel may fall and land really close to a kid and scare the heck out of them!
