Don’t ever let anyone tell you it’s a trash fish, lol. May be the best thing I’ve ever eaten!

Them and Mangroves have been all the rage the past 5 yrs or so.

*They're both really good eating and easy to catch. Theyve been getting beat on pretty good

Most people just don't want to fool with them. I think everyone knows they are great eating.

Right. I keep em if it isn't a great day, but I'm not throwing one in on top of a limit of specs

I love them, just not much ratio of meat/fish.

They are very good...and can be made to taste almost exactly like Lobster....similar texture and real close. Damned fun to catch too....like gigantic bream!

try cutting off head, gutting don't bother to scale and wrap in cheesecloth and drop into crab boil for 3 minutes and soak for 30. Unwrap cheesecloth and scales fall off. Use the flaky meat any way you would crab meat it's even better!

Took my 6 year old on an inshore fishing trip in Destin Tuesday. He wore out the Mangroves. We enjoyed our meal

When you filet them, the yield of filet is not big or long because of the build of sheepshead's body. Many people put back because of this. The meat is very good though

I wish it was still that way over here. I love catching a pile of them stacked up in the winter. Unfortunately, so does everyone else these days.

Cut the rib area off with the head. Cleaner process after the boil

I mean yeah they’re harder to clean than a redfish but once you get the hang of it and where all the meat is they really aren’t that bad that I wouldn’t want to keep one

Agreed. They've got a nice little slot to slide the knife down the spine in one quick move too.

Some of the whitest meat out there. I love going out to the MRGO rocks and getting on them. They are much harder to cllean than trout, but they taste as good if not better.

The only problem with them is a 5 pound sheephead has filet about size of 2 pound trout due to those damn Y bones. We used to catch dozens that size on the old wooden RR bridge between OS and Biloxi growing up. It would take several of us to carry them. Would catch black drum and huge flounder too. Good ole days

I like using it for fish tacos. Blackened and sautéed in butter
